Despite its massive profile, The Elder Scrolls Online has been a bit of an unknown quantity until now. When first unveiled, Bethesda's MMO looked worryingly unlike the series that spawned it. The company then gradually retooled things, fixing the graphical style first, and then moving on to installing the franchise's iconic first-person gameplay. But they were, to varying degrees, superficial changes. The main question remained whether or not TESO felt like an Elder Scrolls game.
After a meaty, two-hour hands-on session at Gamescom last week, the good news is that it absolutely does, albeit with a couple of small but important changes. And, unfortunately, one caveat that gives us a new worry, despite the brilliance otherwise on show.
