Maybe 3 or 4 of the names on this list are actually bad names. There's nothing wrong with most of them. This strikes me as an article written by someone who is very picky about things when there's literally nothing to be picky about. Totally lost me at Hans Clamp. You say his name sounds like the name of a mad scientist. Then you say that's exactly what he is. Sooooo why complain?

what? ff characters were included?? now that's a joke.. can you come up with better names?? so Paul Phoenix is another name for a porn star now huh? I want to take my 5 minutes of life back for reading this crap.

Bastila (KOTOR) -Sounds like a shit indie band and in fact I would wager any man that they could in fact find said band in about 10 minutes and think to themselves"This is a shit indie band".

I thought of Billain from one of the Final Fantasy games. It was meant to be villain but the 'v' was changed to 'b' because the Japanese don't use the letter 'v'.

You a few: - Zack Fair (Final Fantasy VII; Crisis Core yadda yadda) Square Enix needed to come up with a character who was the polar opposite of Cloud Strife. In this case, said character's name is an opposite of "strife" combined with the first jock/semi-douche name they could come up with. In other words, he could just as easily have been named "Chad Peace", which sounds even more semi-douchey. - Rouge (the bat) (Sonic the Hedgehog series) Quick, thing of a word that sounds fancy! Was it French? Was it "rouge"? Similar to how many "cool" teens tattoo random Japanese calligraphy onto themselves, Sega chose the first exotic-sounding word that came to mind and ran with it, paying no regards to the fact that Rouge is not, well, red. She could just as easily have been named "bird" or "vomit" or something, if it sounded fancy enough. - Desmond Miles (Assassin's Creed series (up until IV)) (insert generic American name here) a (insert generic occupation here) from (insert name of famous U.S. city here) who's life got flip-turned upside-down after coming in contact with (insert name of evil organization/corporation here) - Shadow (the hedgehog) (Sonic the Hedgehog series) Quick, think of a word that sounds angsty!

I audibly laughed throughout this whole thing. Mind you, it's 00h46 and I'm quite tired, but I stil maintain this is genius stuff. I take off my hat to you sir, you have done a splendid job.

What? No Ashley Riot? Vagrant Story is one of my all time favorites, but the hero has one powerful stupid name.

There is nothing wrong with Marcus Fenix's name dammit. I have never once thought "hey this sounds like a porn star name" even now, after reading you think that.. I still don't.
  • bebl09 - October 22, 2013 2:59 p.m.

I have to be honest, I always thought it sounded pretty stupid. It just sounds like the developers were trying too hard to give the main character a 'cool' or 'badass' name.
  • BladedFalcon - October 22, 2013 2:07 p.m.

Yeeeah.. For a series that has come up with a lot of actually pretty good names for their characters and enemies. Ceaseless Discharge was a big "WTF???" for me when I fought him for the first time in Dark Souls XD And heh, even though I love Sol Badguy, I'm not even going to try and pretend the name isn't completely ridiculous :P I did love the name "Dash Rendar" un-ironically back when I was a kid... But then again, I was a kid :P
  • bebl09 - October 22, 2013 2:59 p.m.

Dash Rendar was awesome, I think it's a great Star Wars name.

On another note, it's always driven me crazy that Luigi's evil twin is WALuigi. It made sense with the Mario-invert-to-Wario switch, but simply adding "Wa" to the beginning of Luigi's name just doesn't work (in English, at least. I'm aware of the Wa- prefix significance in Japanese. It still sounds stupid.) Why couldn't it be JUigi?
  • austinconley - October 22, 2013 5:32 p.m.

"Warui" is Japanese for bad. So Waruigi. It's actually really clever.
