The 42 best, funniest and weirdest photos of Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto being brilliantly odd

I bloody love Shigeru Miyamoto. I really bloody love him. It's not just that he's created some of the finest-crafted, wittily-designed, overall wonderful games in history. It's not just that his eight and sixteen-bit Mario games absolutely shaped my early gaming years. It's also the fact the he's been responsible for some of the most downright brilliantly batshit photos in the history of the whole of the games industry.

Miyamoto, you see, has two amazing personal traits that no-one else in gaming matches. He has a lunatic willingness to get publicly involved in any nonsensical situation whatsoever, and he has one of those effortlessly expressive faces that drops bombs of comedy gold all day every day whether he's intending to or not. So I've trawled the internet and grabbed every amazing Miyamoto photo I could find. There are a lot of them. 42 to be precise. They're all amazing. Enjoy.

Above: "Now I am normal sized, and I am pretending to tickle an invisible giant's balls"

Above: He cares not for Kinect either

David Houghton
Long-time GR+ writer Dave has been gaming with immense dedication ever since he failed dismally at some '80s arcade racer on a childhood day at the seaside (due to being too small to reach the controls without help). These days he's an enigmatic blend of beard-stroking narrative discussion and hard-hitting Psycho Crushers.
