Fifty Shades Of Grey gets an R-rating for unusual behaviour
Given Fifty Shades Of Grey’s racy subject matter, it should come as no surprise to learn that the MPAA has given it an R-rating on account of its sexual content.
However, the film’s rating description does include something of an oddity in its reference to “unusual behaviour”, a hilariously prudish reference to the BDSM activities enjoyed by the film’s two leads.
For the sake of context, the MPAA describes the R-rating as a reaction to, “strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behaviour and graphic nudity, and for language.” Oo-er, missus etc.
It’s interesting to note that screenwriter Kelly Marcel had previously described her script as NC-17-worthy, while producer Dana Brunetti has expressed an interest in releasing two cuts of the film. Don’t be surprised to see an “uncut” version at some point down the track…
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and co-starring Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson and Jennifer Ehle, Fifty Shades Of Grey will open in UK and US on 13 February 2015.
