Holy Cloverfield, Batman! Ben Affleck welcomes new The Batman director Matt Reeves to the Batcave

Things are looking up for The Batman: after weeks of uncertainty with Ben Affleck stepping down as director, a new script needing to be written and more (read our complete history of The Batman’s troubles for the full lowdown), a beacon of light has appeared in the shape of War for The Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves signing on to helm the solo Batman movie – and Bruce Wayne himself, Ben Affleck, has welcomed him with open arms.

Ben Affleck tweeted “Welcome to the Batcave” and it appears everyone is on the same page for the first time in a while when it comes to The Batman. It remains to be seen what changes Matt Reeves will insist upon but he’s “excited”: a happy Bat-family is a productive Bat-family.

Matt Reeves directed and wrote the critically-acclaimed horror movie Let Me In, as well as being in the director’s chair for Dawn of The Planet of the Apes and the upcoming War for The Planet of the Apes. He is perhaps best known, though, for iconic found-footage movie Cloverfield, which is sure to intrigue Batman aficionados and movie buffs alike.

Here’s hoping The Batman can skulk out of the development hell shadows and fire up the Bat-signal sooner rather than later.
