Forza Motorsport 4 announced for fall 2011, first trailer inside

Shares

Forza Motorsport 4 was recently announced during Spike’s VGA 2010 awards show. The next title in the racing series is scheduled for a fall 2011 release on the Xbox 360 and will be compatible with Kinect. “Now that Forza 4 is officially heading towards its fall finish line, we’ve only just begun talking about the game. We can’t wait to share all the juicy details of what we’re cooking up for all of you and, over the coming months,” says Turn 10 community manager Brian Ekberg.

It’ll be interesting to see how Forza 4 will stack up against Gran Turismo 5, which pushed the limits of the uncanny car valley this year. If you’re not familiar with it, the uncanny car valley is a hypothesis regarding the realism of really expensive cars in videogames. Based on German psychiatrist Ernst Jentsc’s work in On the Psychology of the Uncanny, the theory posits that as cars look more and more realistic in racing titles, there comes a point where the player finds himself disgusted with his virtual ride.

Anyhow, have a look at the first round of car porn. Here’s a bunch of fresh promotional images from Turn 10 along with the announcement trailer.

Awwwe! What a cute little arcade racer... you know, just perfect for the kids.

I retract my statements. I just watched the E3 demo and my mind has been blown all over my face. I just hope Kinect involvement is not integral to playing, that would be franchise suicide.

HereComesTheHypeTrainCHOOCHOO has it right. There's no reason for all the busting nuts over these pictures because there is nothing that indicates they're from the game engine. As far as I'm concerned, these are just pictures of a Ferrari with the Forza logo watermarked in the corner. Yeesh...

The outside of the car looks better in GT5, although the interior looks better in Forza. Personally, Forza can look better all it wants but as long as the game is still arcade-like I'll stick with GT5

Some where in Middle Town Conneticut, my brother just passed out from the announcement of Forza 4.

im pretty sure those pictures are screen shots cause the car just looks way too clean too me which is what all cars in forza tend to look like. like no one has even touched it and its been in an air tight sealed chamber where no dust even gets in.

@HereComeTheHypeTrainChooChoo : These are the exact same screen shots they showed a couple months back with a Kinect Demo. These are in-game.

Loved Forza 3 but like Forza 2 after awhile it just get boring racing forever. I'm more of an arcade racer but I do enjoy realistic races from time to time. All the Forzas have looked beautiful.

Now they're just making GT look silly...

Promotional images guys, not in-game screenshots. You know, taken with a camera out in the desert, not produced on a computer with 28800 X 14400 resolution screenshots like most publishers like to send out to the enthusiast press. Until Microsoft sends out some actual gameplay footage for me to see then I will find it hard to believe that 4orza will trump Gran Turismo 5 in the visuals department and certainly not in the gameplay "feel" department that matters to me the most.

I made my friend Jizz by showing him Elder Scrolls V.... Now it's my turn! GIMME!! GIMME!! GIMME!! GIMME!! GIMME!! GIMME!!! *Hooks 360 back up to TV and starts playing Forza 3 again*

Im pretty sure those are real photos. If not then its the first time ever that I really cant tell the difference.
  • BearKiller - December 12, 2010 6:12 p.m.

Man, Tyler, you're working your butt off. You deserve a major award.
  • mrmorozov987 - December 12, 2010 6:02 p.m.

Wait, those aren't actual photos? Those are the in-game models? Seriously, even the 3rd photo looks amazing. 360 owners, I'll trade you Gran Turismo for this. Please? Pretty please?
  • TheMonarch - December 12, 2010 4:41 p.m.

With clips from the Top Gear USA show, and the new partnership announced, I wonder what that will produce? I'm excited even though this will be the third Forza on 360, and the kinect walk around the cars should be sweet. ReCaptcha: until burtiess Whatever the hell that means.
