G4 is ending production on its two cornerstone gaming programs, X-Play and Attack of the Show. TV Guide reports the shows will both wrap up by the end of this year in advance of a planned revamp for the channel.
"Attack of the Show and X-Play have been important for G4, and we want to acknowledge the creative people who have helped inspire and showcase the phenomenon of gamer culture," G4 Media general manager Adam Stotsky said.
Both programs will close out with several programs guest starring former hosts and popular segments from their more than 3,000 episodes combined (X-Play began in its current form in 2003 on TechTV and Attack of the Show first aired in 2005). Original host Adam Sessler left X-Play and the network in April, though the program has continued with longtime co-host Morgan Webb in his absence.
Some sources have speculated that G4 plans to transition to an "upscale, sophisticated guy" demographic, potentially partnering with men's magazines like Esquire or GQ.
