Guardians of the Galaxy 2 director debunks Daddy Star-Lord rumor
Earlier today, Heroic Hollywood's head scooper Umberto Gonzalez released a report supposedly unmasking the identity of Peter Quill's father in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The mystery surrounding Star-Lord's dad prompted much speculation amongst fans after writer-director James Gunn announced that his onscreen father would be a different character to the one revealed in the comics. In light of today's "scoop" Gunn's future interactions with fans will unlikely yield any more tidbits concerning the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.
Taking to his official Facebook page to set the record straight, Gunn expressed his frustration toward this style of spoiler reporting. "From this moment on I’m going to stop commenting on any rumors surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, because, eventually, someone is going to come up with a spoiler that has some truth to it," he explained. "That said, the rumors surrounding Quill’s parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren’t even close to the truth. I don’t know how people come up with this stuff, but it certainly isn’t through legitimate sources."
His response will come as a blow to many fans who regularly engage with Gunn as part of his social media Q&As. While he's never let any big details slip, understandably, it's a forum to learn small teasers. "Eventually someone will actually spoil some detail of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," he adds in his sign off. "So this will be my last comment squelching a rumor until May 2017." The film is scheduled to open - if you hadn't twigged - on May 5, 2017.
