James Gunn defends Marvel in Deadpool Facebook rant
Take note, people. You cross James Gunn at your peril. As Guardians of the Galaxy showed us, he’s not only a hot-shot raccoon wrangler, but a talented director with the vision to bring Marvel’s cosmic side to the big screen.
He’s also a passionate man when provoked, as proven by his Facebook comeback to a Deadline Hollywood story that found an unnamed studio “suit” taking a pot-shot at Marvel Studios, while praising the surprise success of Deadpool. The merc with a mouth’s new movie (from rival studio 20th Century Fox) has made an impressive $150 at the box office to become the top opening for a February release.
"The film has a self-deprecating tone that’s riotous,” says the anonymous insider. “It’s never been done before. It’s poking fun at Marvel. That label takes itself so seriously, can you imagine them making fun of themselves in a movie? They’d rather stab themselves."
That’s fightin’ talk, clearly. And, our lab tests indicate, quite possibly the ravings of a man who's never seen a Marvel movie in his life. Check out Gunn's, frankly amazing, response below in which he defends Marvel against "the dumbest fucking Hollywood exec in the history of dumb fucking Hollywood execs"...
