Mario describes the 3DS for five minutes in surreal video
Mario tells us in great detail just what a 3DS is and we feel kind of weird about it
Mostly silent for the first 15 years of his career, when Mario and his voice actor Charles Martinet hit the big time in Super Mario 64, the former plumber hasn’t stopped talking since. In the years since Mario 64, the mustachioed one has limited himself to small sentences like, “It’s-a me, Mario!,” and, “Woo Hoo! Just what I needed.” While he was certainly talkative, Mario rarely said more than five words at a time, and then this video changed all that. Watch as Mario thoroughly describes the 3DS in great detail to new consumers.
We suppose it works as a way of introducing the 3D handheld to unfamiliar consumers, but after all those years of barely saying anything, we were slightly disturbed by this official Nintendo production. It’s cloyingly cute to hear Mario’s clichéd accent pronounce games as “games-es-is,” but once we got past that, we mostly just sat in disbelief that the thing even existed. Do you think hearing Mario describe the system will sell people on the 3DS? And could this be the start of a more verbose Mario? Personally, we hope Mario takes a vow of silence for at least a year after that.
