Nintendo prices Wii U Deluxe, Wind Waker HD Bundle at $300

Shares

Nintendo is reducing its suggested price for the Wii U Deluxe Set to $300. The $50 price drop will be official as of Sept. 20, but expect retailer-specific discounts to go into effect before then.

The drop will bring it into price parity with the white, less-spacious Basic bundle. We've asked Nintendo about the Basic's future and will update this article with any response.

Nintendo announced its The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Bundle will also launch on Sept. 20 for $300. The bundle includes a Deluxe Wii U console (meaning black and with 32 GB of built-in storage), a black GamePad with gold Zelda detailing, a download code for the digital version of the Hyrule Historia, and an immediately valid download code for The Wind Waker HD.

The Wind Waker HD will be available two weeks early for digital buyers, in the bundle or by itself on eShop. The retail version will launch on Oct. 4.

UPDATE: Here's Nintendo's response about Wii U Basic's future:

"The Basic model is currently in very limited supply. If consumers can find it, it remains at a suggested retail price of $299.99."

Why must they have the statue limited edition version of WW HD as well? That just makes me want to get them separate..... but then I miss out on the special gamepad! You'd think the special edition WW HD WiiU would come with the Ganondorf statue as well......

there's also a special edition for $60 that comes with the game and a statue of Gannon. it seems to be exclusive to gamestop. I haven't seen it anywhere else.

I may finally pick up a Wii U now, especially since I don't plan on picking up a new Xbox until next year once I've burned through my 360 backlog.

Classic Nintendo, leave it to them to vehemently say one thing, then do the complete opposite almost immediately: http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-has-no-plans-for-a-wii-u-price-drop-256456.phtml http://www.destructoid.com/iwata-wii-u-doesn-t-need-a-price-cut-it-needs-games-259870.phtml Not that I blame them though. With the two next gen platforms looming so imminently in the Horizon, it would have stupid for them to NOT have a price cut. And bundling it with the HD remake is a pretty smart move as well. Still not remotely interested in it, mind, but credit where credit is due.

Nice Hmm, its digital though right? Last I checked Lego City Undercover alone took so much space. This is a real nice deal though, and hyrule historia, eh, I keep delaying myself of buying the Wii U, I might bite on this.

Is this coming to Europe as well? Mostly because, last time I checked, Hyrule Historia hadn't, unless you import it from the US. Would be nice to have a copy, even if it was digital. Also since I don't own a Wii U yet, having a nice Zelda special edition is as good as any reason to buy one I suppose. And does that imply the Basic is being discontinued? To be fair, I saw no real reason why it existed anyway. Even the 32GB model is slightly pitiful storage-wise.

It comes with a download of Wind Waker? Damn, I was going to get this, too. I guess I'm still waiting for holiday sales.
