We’re not going to lie, though. Judging from the Japanese release of Operation Darkness, this game has one serious flaw that needs fixing: the camera. Its somewhat first-person perspective is nice because of the WWII “shooter” setting, but because of the nature of an SRPG, this will undoubtedly become more than irritating for players. Fortunately, the US release should fine-tune some of the few irritants that the Japanese release had. There is no word yet if that includes a completely revamped camera or not, however. Atlus has stated that this will be one of their best localization efforts yet, including big-budget voice acting.
From what we have played, Operation Darkness is great fun, and since the domestic release seems even more promising, this is without a doubt a game to watch out for in 2008.
