Play Zelda II in 3D

Shares

A 3D version of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link has just been released, and it looks awesome. The game controls like a first-person shooter. You’ll use the WASD keys to move, the spacebar to jump, and your mouse to look around. Left-clicking makes Link slash his sword and will fire off an energy projectile if you’re at full health.

The attention to detail is super and we were most impressed with the way Michael Johnston, the game’s author, translated the original’s sprites into 3D. “When starting this project I had to choose very carefully what I had time to accomplish if this game was ever to see the light of day. As a result I decided to remake the beginning of the game up to the end of the first boss,” explains Johnston.

Good news, everyone. I beat the skeleton.

@MikelRapearse Every Zelda game is "old and crap?" A series that premiered in the late 80's is not "old." Besides, how old are you? I'm guessing no older than twelve. Come back when you've got something useful to say.

I have a hard enough time getting motivated to play Zelda II in 2D, much less with one more dimension. Maybe if they added Dimension X and you could fight Krang.
  • Modroneman - June 1, 2010 9:21 p.m.

I remember playing the crap out of the Zelda II and loving it. But what is up with all the web based games coming out. I don't want to go to a website when I want to play a game. I want to click a icon on my desktop. Am I lazy, maybe, but web games suck.
  • GamesRadarPaulRyan - June 1, 2010 9:18 p.m.

How do you beat the skeleton?
  • QWERTYCommander - June 1, 2010 8:47 p.m.

What's even better is that you don't have to download it.
  • MikelRapearse - June 1, 2010 8:38 p.m.

every single zelda game is old and crap also ReCaptcha: Homo Sexual
  • AFTERLIFEJOSH - June 1, 2010 7:42 p.m.

AS much as I love Zelda:II I don't want to play it in 3D, but I'll at least check it out.
  • GamesRadarTylerNagata - June 1, 2010 7:25 p.m.

@TomMishkin thanks! we love you too. thanks for reading GR :D
  • Jacob816 - June 1, 2010 7:13 p.m.

When I read the headline, I thought that this was going to be a 3D (as in three dimensions, not polygonal) homebrew version of Zelda.
  • TomMishkin - June 1, 2010 7:11 p.m.

You are absofu*kinglutely forgiven, mr. Nagata, because this is one of the greatest... THINGS ever happened on the Internet and I imagine you just hurried to publish it because you felt the powerful rush of awesomeness pushing you from behind and... Oh, I love you, Gamesradar. I want to have babies with each and every one of you. Oh, and a themed recaptcha: that knuckle, I guess it's referring to the Ironknuckle, isn't it? TEABAG!
  • litrock - June 1, 2010 7:10 p.m.

That was really cool. I got my ass handed to me by the first skeleton, though. Much like the original AoL. <_< That said, it does remind me why I feel that Zelda and Oblivion have so much in common.
  • breener96 - June 1, 2010 7:10 p.m.

    No worries, Tyler!
