Precursor temporarily cancels Shadow of the Eternals crowdfunding

Precursor Games has temporarily canned its crowdfunding drives for Eternal Darkness successor Shadow of the Eternals. The developer today announced that both its Kickstarter and private website drives will end on June 6 to be relaunched in a few weeks, and all pledges will either be cancelled or refunded depending on the platform.

"Since we announced this Kickstarter campaign we have seen more support from our community than we had ever hoped for," Precursor wrote. "Along with this support has come a host of a new exciting opportunities that will make the game better than we envisioned."

That unexpected outpouring of support must not have been monetary: Shadow of the Eternals' Kickstarter only accrued about $127,000 of its $1,350,000 goal three weeks into the campaign. Kicktraq's most generous projections estimated it would close with $200,000 in pledges on June 19. Save for a sudden infusion of more than $1 million, Precursor would have received none of those contributions.

The 5,000 fans who donated about $280,00 to Shadow of the Eternals' website instead of its Kickstarter should keep an eye out for PayPal refunds.
