PSA: DC Universe Online is now free-to-play

Shares

As promised late last month, DC Universe Online, the super-powered MMO by the creators of Everquest, is now free to play on both the PlayStation 3 and the PC.

Besides giving those who already play the game the option to downgrade their account to a free one, it should also help populate the streets of Gotham and Metropolis with thousands of additional super heroes and villains to battle (or fight alongside).

The free to play option, which was revealed last month, gives several different options to players. Players who are interested in trying the game without spending a dime can do so, but they'll be missing out on some content. Those who have spent (or will spend) at least $5 are "Premium" members, and will have more benefits available to them including additional character slots, additional inventory slots, and higher cash limits. They still won't have access to all of the content, though; some will still have to be purchased in-game. Anyone who wants to either buy a lifetime subscription or spend $15 a month can do so to be granted "Legendary" membership, which grants access to all DLC packs at no cost, more than 15 character slots, more than 80 inventory slots, the ability to form unrestricted-sized leagues, and many other benefits.

If you're interested in checking the game out there has literally never been a better reason to jump in. The servers are going to be full of new players, the game has a few months worth of bug fixes and content updates, and it's absolutely free. Go save the world (or destroy it, whatever).

Definitely not free to download the client in the UK. The PSN Store is showing £39.99. Maybe they're just behind as usual!

It'll be free later today, I imagine - the PSN store in the UK usually updates on Wednesday evenings.

Actually, scrap that - I just checked and it's free in the UK now. I'm currently downloading!

They may have changed it, but when I logged onto PSN at around one this morning, they were charging £39.99 to DL it. I'm currently waiting for the slow-ass update to load from the US version.

It's not £40 in Europe at all. I'm in the UK and downloaded the client for free earlier (not that we can login yet, the serves are still down for maintainable). I'm not sure where you got that £40 price tag from.

Yeah, for the USA it's completely free. For Europe..it costs £40 to download. F ucking Sony, why do they keep screwing over Europe? Do we not give them enough money or something?

Sounds -=EXACTLY=- like City of Heroes' pricing structure.
