Rock Band 3 announced via Facebook

Developer Harmonix announced Rock Band 3 today via anupdate on Facebook. No word on what songs will be on the disc, or even if it comes complete with another batch of plastic instruments. In fact, this is all they had to say:

"Harmonix is developing Rock Band 3 for worldwide release this holiday season! The game, which will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts, will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again, just as Harmonix did with the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band. Stay tuned for more details!"

That makes two fall Rock Band releases from Harmonix, the other being Green Day Rock Band, which looks tomirror the "follow the band through its career" setup of 2009's The Beatles: Rock Band. We wonder, will Green Day be as thorough a product now that there's a full-fledged, numerical sequel on the way? With nothing else to go on, we present a Green Day song we hope makes the cut:

"I Was There," from 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. Make it happen!
