Rumor: Parent company of id and Bethesda gobbles up another studio

Shares

After buying up Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami's studio, Tango Game Works, earlier this week, it appears that id and Bethesda owner ZeniMax may have bought yet another studio, Machinegames. While you may have never heard of Machinegames, you know their work. The studio is comprised mostly of ex-Starbreeze guys who worked on The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and The Darkness.

Rumors of the acquisition surfaced on Twitter earlier this week, and given that Machinegame's URL is owned by ZeniMax Sweden AB, they seem to check out at first glance. In addition, Swedish business records list the company's official name as ZeniMax Sweden AB.

The rumored purchase follows a series of acquisitions that seem to indicated that ZeniMax is serious about becoming a major publisher in the video game industry.

Mandatory Elder Scrolls V comment. On a more serious note: cool Zenimax/Bethesda are private unlike EA and Activi$ion and let devs take their time. I'm really looking forward to what Bethesda's going to do in the long run w/ all these companies.

"The studio is comprised mostly of ex-Starbreeze guys" surely, journalists, you mean comprising mostly of ex-starbreeze guys? but, yeah, the darkness is an awesome game

Ah, The Darkness. The only game that ever actually made me cry. I'm man enough to admit that game had some serious emotional strength. We might just have to start looking for ZeniMax to be a contender to make Activision go boom. (PS: pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease ZeniMax????)
