Terarria coming to XBLA and PSN

Shares

In a press release today, it was announced that the smash hit sandbox game Terrariawill be coming to consoles. Previously a PC exclusive, Terraria made a name for itself during the Steam Summer sales where it was often selling for as little as $0.80.

The gameplay could be said to have been modeled off the even bigger PC hit, Minecraft, as it places players in a big open world with materials to mine and craft. However, the most obvious difference is that Terraria is two-dimensional which has provided it with the variation necessary to avoid being called a Minecraft clone.

"I can't say how excited I am to finally have Terraria come to Xbox 360 and PlayStation3," said Andrew Spinks, the creator of Terraria, "To see it come so far is a complete shock, especially after such humble beginnings. It's always been my dream to have as many people as possible know and enjoy Terraria as much as I have, and this is another big step in that direction."

No details on the upcoming port were announced, however the game is tentatively scheduled to land sometime early next year. It was also announced that Terraria has now sold 1.6 million copies on the PC.

To clarify a few points: 1. ReLogic isn't doing this port. They've outsourced it so they have little to nothing to actually do with the work on it, they're just observing the work. 2. PC work stopped because the two guys behind ReLogic (The main spriter and the main coder) went on to separate projects. 3. The "New content" for the consoles isn't made by ReLogic as far as we know. From what can be gathered it's by the porting company. 4. F them if they aren't going to release it on PC though.

Either Andrew Groen is a terrible writer, or someone did a shoddy job converting press release text into pseudo-reportage. I wonder which one it is...

Explains why they stopped supporting the PC version not too long ago, they had to prepare for the console versions. That's nice. I won't be supporting this company any longer, the PC crowd that gave them their initial sales and revenue gets shit on while the consoles will get their continued support in the name of greed.

Yeah, this kind of bugs me too. It's not like Minecraft where the devs continued to support the PC version while the console port was in production. With Terraria, ReLogic just cut off development completely.
