Tom Hiddleston was blown away by Jordan Vogt-Roberts Kong: Skull Island

Tom Hiddleston has made a name for himself as Thor’s little brother in the Marvel universe, but it seems the actor is looking forward to playing the protagonist for once in Kong: Skull Island. The Crimson Peak star talked to Total Film magazine about the new film from The Kings of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts in this month’s issue, saying: "It’s fantastic, very different, a sort of reimagining of the King Kong mythology".

A prequel to Peter Jackson’s 2005 remake, Hiddleston gave us some insight into what we can expect from Kong: Skull Island. "It absolutely tips its hat to all King Kong movies that have gone before, with respect and deference, but it’s a new period, a new set of characters.

"Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ vision was breathtaking. He came in to Legendary and said, ‘What if you did this?’ and we were blown away."

The actor also gave a rundown on the character he’ll be playing: "I play a former soldier who is contracted to go to Skull Island for a particular reason, but I am no longer officially a military officer. He’s the protagonist, so I’m not playing the villain, and I’m not playing the antihero. You see the story through his eyes, which is nice."

Co-starring Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson, it’s set to start filming soon with an initial released planned for March 10 2017 in the US and a UK release date yet to be confirmed. You can see Tom Hiddleston next in Crimson Peak opposite Mia Wasikowska, which will hit UK and US cinemas on October 16 2015.
