UPDATE: Soulcalibur V teaser trailer enters the stage of history

Shares

When news broke about Soulcalibur V our excitement rose as dreams of clashing swords and undulating boobs entered our minds. But at press time Namco Bandai hadn’t made the debut trailer for SCV available to us, and we had to rely on a grainy YouTube vid. Well no more! Here’s the teaser footage in all its 720p glory!

We’ll see more of it in action at E3, but for details on the game and its new protagonist Patroklos (he’s the guy at the end), be sure to read our news piece on the story.

A guy just posted an official breast comparison for SC V. Ivy is the first at staggering 100cm, Shizuka 95 cm.. and so on.. They actually put much thought into this...

I don't get the hate on SC IV??

Cant wait ^_^ I REALLY Hope they go back to the whole exclusive character console thing, Nintendo's New console should be out by the time this game comes out which we can get Link again since Soul Calibur 2! PS3 can get Kratos like Mortal Kombat, and as for Microsoft, I dont know put marcus Phoenix or something lol

The lip syncing is bad because that's footage from SCIV and that game had HORRIBLE lip syncing, worse than Alan Wake. Really kind of a trash trailer. All that's new was that very feminine looking Aryan boy and the logo.

I hope they don't make it suck like 3 and 4.

After the grueling battle, a victor emerged...[WE ALL] win! Seriously though, I will always be interested in the SoulCalibur series. Hopefully this one is a bit less stale, and a bit more graphically refined than the last entry. Also patrokios looks laaaaame.

pleasebringbackcharactercreationpleasebringbackcharactercreation Not much of a trailer...difficult to get excited about this game when all they really show is Siegfried(?) with a bad haircut and a lack of seriously awesome armour. But PLEASE let them bring back Character Creation!

I think Danny Elfman might have grounds to sue for the last few seconds of that trailer appears to steal at least a few bars from the 1989 Batman theme. As for the game, not sure. Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast remains one of my all time favourite games, SC II on the XBOX was more of the same, but more recently SC IV left me feeling a little flat. Something was not quite right.

Sure, Siggy says that now, but probably only he and Nightmare will be back for sure. We can all just assume that all of our created characters' endings were canon. Yup,the world's mightiest fighter was a effete umbrella-blade wielding dandy in a pink robe and sun hat. An official entrant from Bleach or Queen's Blade (Ivy would fit right in with that cast. The next Queen's Blade would be Soul Edge/Calibur?!) or Afro Samurai might be nice for the next guest fighter(s) or full-blown cross over.

This got me to go play 4 for a little while just now. I haven't enjoyed any nearly as much as the first one, but they're still my favorite fighters, and I don't really like any others much. But, where were the boobs in this trailer?

I'm a big fan of the Soul Calibur series, thought SC IV was great, it was mechanically tighter. With that said, I have to admit, I was disappointed in this trailer. Im excited to see the game based on my experience, but this trailer did NOTHING for me. If you want to whet the appetite, take a page out of BF3 or even the Hitman Absolution book of hooking the fans. Namco, you don't want to reveal too much, I get it, no problem, but make it dramatic and interesting, this was forgettable.

@santaclouse37 - Agreed. And is it just me or does the logo at the end look like the logo for a terrible thrash metal band? But whatever. I like the SC series altogether. It's big, flashy and stupid which is what I like in fighting games. Plus it means more Ivy :)

Excited for this, but did anyone else notice that, objectively, this is a god-awful trailer? I mean, poor dubbing, 300 style fast/slow motion switches, tells us nothing about the plot, and didn't really get me excited at all other than the opening quote. I mean, it's just really terrible, schizophrenic film-making. Again, excited for the game, but why did they have to introduce it like this?
  • R-ape - May 11, 2011 7:14 p.m.

Very excited for this. I hope it's a "return-to-roots" type of game with some tweaks to keep it fresh. it's a proven formula that it'll work. See MK and SF.
  • DarkTone - May 11, 2011 7:06 p.m.

Nice teaser. Either that's bad dubbing or my lappy just lagged.
  • huckleberry - May 11, 2011 6:58 p.m.

Opening the teaser with the "transcending history etc. etc." quote was brilliant, I nostalgia'd hard and my expectations are sky-high. Could care less for the new guy at the end though, they would probably do better off without him.
  • DualWieldingIsNotFeasible - May 11, 2011 6:54 p.m.

How can people not like Soul Calibur IV? It's exactly like SC2, but with improved mechanics and graphics!
  • Brutalicus - May 11, 2011 6:41 p.m.

I hate to break it to you, but that guy kind of looks like Hope from FFXIII. And yeah if they can recapture SC2's glory this could be good.
  • Mamudo - May 11, 2011 6:39 p.m.

I'm a fan of the Soul series and I really excited for this game. I'll admit that 3 and 4 weren't as good as Edge, Calibur 1 or 2(2 being my personal favorite as for as gameplay). I still have high hopes for SCV and I'll probably still love it.
  • TheWhiteLight - May 11, 2011 6:11 p.m.

This used to be one of my favorite series. Soul Edge/Blade and Soul Calibur had so many good, memorable characters, and a relatively simple yet enjoyable story. The last few games, however, have unfortunately felt really tired. Perhaps you could even say they lost a bit of their soul, with just a little irony. Hopefully this game will add more than giant tits and destructible clothing.
