The Walking Dead shooter gameplay footage

Shares

A fan has compiled nearly two minutes of gameplay footage from that OTHER The Walking Dead game, Survival Instinct, from this IGN interview. It starts out fine, but by about 20 seconds in the footage looks more like... Well, death warmed over is definitely too harsh though thematically tempting.

Maybe like a slightly more polished DayZ? Without the freeform multiplayer or vast environment, but, it does have, y'know... Takedown animations. On PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Maybe just play the Telltale game, which just so happens to be our Game of the Year for 2012.

CORRECTION: We originally wrote that this is a direct release from Activision, however it appears to actually be a fan-made compilation of footage from an IGN interview. The gameplay footage itself does not appear to have been altered in any way from the original source.

For those who can't view it on this site - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PA8_MSWlDj8 It looks bloody awful. Terrible AI, terrible animations, terrible character/zombie models, terrible physics (I noticed what looked like a breeze block go flying when a zombie clipped it). I suppose something in the Walking Dead brand had to be rubbish eventually. Just glad it's something attributed to the show instead of the comics and Telltale game

Activision is going to screw this one up, I just know it.

Taken down already? Harsh... i wish i could at least see it...

Rhymes with bad, stink, suck, and any other bad thing you can think of.
  • JangoFettN7 - January 3, 2013 2:59 a.m.

It's never a good sign when 10 seconds into the video you can clearly see the horrible AI unable to maneuver around a tombstone...

I hope this is just rough early footage, because if it's actually representative of the finished game it's going to stink worse than a 3 week dead walker!

I love how they are trying to display intensity and wild situations but you feel nothing. Just from watching this video I can tell that their zombie AI is horrific, and apparently they haven't worked on sound at all because they masked the video with a lazily chosen rock solo. Everything is just so meh...

Holy awful. Why did they look like plastic dolls?

Is this shit real? It's so bad it's like a dream

Don't let Activision get the license to make a Breaking Bad game. Can you imagine? Jesse finally snaps and locks himself in the biggest crack house ever. A huge crack palace, forty stories tall! And Walt has to fight his way to the top, shooting roving bands of crazy meth heads that he helped create! That... just don't let it happen.

Well, that sucked. After ZombiU (which I personally loved), I have a certain expectation for zombie games where "survival" is the big push, and a vid where a guy is shown running through crowds of them, stabbing a couple, and taking no damage whatsoever is more that a little turn-off for me.

man, so many people are jumping on the hate train for this game. who knew a minute and a half long video could rustle so many jimmies? seriously though this is more than likely an unfinished product designed to show off the basic gameplay elements, don't crucify it before anybody gets a chance to actually review it.
  • BladedFalcon - January 2, 2013 7:33 p.m.

well, you show a video publicly, you take responsibility for the reactions it causes. If the game is so unfinished and not yet presentable... then don't show a video? I mean, it's not impossible that it might be as you say, and that the final product could end up looking much better. But you also can't blame people for reacting negatively to a preview footage. MOST games are shown gameplay from it also way early in their development cycle, and they still can look interesting, fun or promising. This video shows none of that, and for such, it deserves to be slammed.
  • ColtPersonality - January 2, 2013 7:48 p.m.

well just my opinion I guess. I just think it's way to early to pass judgement on this.
  • Dante1924 - January 2, 2013 5:17 p.m.

Wow. I had little hope for this from the start, but... wow.
  • GOD - January 2, 2013 4:52 p.m.

It's like that slow bit in trailers when they try to build tension before stuff starts to get crazy, except it never gets anymore exciting and it ends on the same slow boring note that it held for the whole trailer. It never once seemed like he was in any real danger, and the only times he was close to a zombie were because he ran straight for them when they could have easily been avoided.
  • garnsr - January 2, 2013 7:30 p.m.

That's what I thought. He's not heavily-armed enough to be charging into a bunch of zombies, so why is he going towards them, instead of away? I guess because Activision's making a more action-oriented shooter, instead of a survival-focused one, but there weren't any guns to make you believe that. It doesn't look like it would satisfy fans of shooting or zombies much.
  • Darthspud - January 2, 2013 3:26 p.m.

This looks like Dead Island, without any resemblance of the fun, and all of it's problems tenfold.
  • Darthspud - January 2, 2013 3:26 p.m.

    *Its. Fuck.
  • metalgatesolid - January 2, 2013 2:51 p.m.

Take the name of a brilliant survival horror game based on a great TV show and turn it into what looks like the Nuke Nukem Forever of 2013. Deserves better than this.
