Kirby's Epic Yarn: Metaknight and DeDeDe confirmed, screens and vid inside
Kirby's nemesiseses [sic] also get the string treatment
Right off the bat, Epic Yarn looks and plays like no other Kirby game before it. This welcome departure led us to believe some of Kirby's classic villains might take a breather, but today's new screens and trailer reveal the dastardly DeDeDe and malicious Metaknight are indeed still part of this adventure.
Last week I had a chance to play the DeDeDe boss, and I must say it was pretty damn tough - a good sign, because the early levels, while utterly adorable, were easier than the easiest thing you've ever done in your life. Naturally the battle was all about learning a pattern, but there was an extra challenge with De this time around, as he was being controlled by some form of off-screen puppetry. You had to dodge, counterattack and eventually stun DeDeDe, then hop on his back to reach the strings and buttons that are usually just out of each. Tough stuff, made a bit easier with two players (shout out to Prince Fluff!)
Then there's Metaknight, who I didn't see until this morning's assets came through. While DeDeDe appeared to be under someone else's control, Metaknight attacks Kirby of his own free will. How did he end up in the yarn world? Why is he bothering to attack Kirby when he should be searching for a way out? Guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks. Uh, unless you live in the UK, in which case you have to wait for 2011. No idea why that is, but it's plain cruel.
