Zack Snyder explains Cyborg's important cameo in Batman v Superman

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

If you're not a comic book fan, there are at least a couple scenes in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that may leave you confused. On the flipside, there are plenty of cool Easter eggs that comic book fans will doubtless appreciate, and one of the more intriguing hidden gems comes when the film is introducing the audience to other Justice League heroes.

One of the videos Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman clicks on shows us footage of Dr Silas Stone - whom, in an uncanny bit of casting, is played by Terminator 2's Joe Morton - trying to save his son Victor (Ray Fisher), who has lost most of his limbs. We get to see a little glimpse of Victor's transformation into Cyborg, which involves a mysterious box that reconstructs his body.

Entertainment Weekly recently spoke with Zack Snyder, and the director clarified exactly what that box is; "That’s the first glimpse of the Mother Box there. It was an agonizing birth. I really wanted to show Cyborg’s birth because I feel like he plays such a strong part coming up, and I really wanted to give a sense of him. I really want [the audience] to know how far he’s come."

For the uninitiated, a Mother Box is a device that can manipulate time, space and reality, and merging with the Mother Box turned Victor into a technopath.

Of all the inelegant extended universe teases we got in Batman v Superman, Cyborg's had me the most interested. His solo film has no writer or director at the time of writing, but I'm intrigued to see how Snyder plans to use him in the Justice League movies after this tantalising glimpse.

Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Mamoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher, Justice League: Part 1 is currently scheduled for a November 17, 2017 release.
