7 SHIRLEY MANSON
Worst SF performance: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Pop fame: Lead singer of Garbage
SF fame: If there was one failsafe role a pop-star could be trusted not to screw up it should be the emotionless, expressionless killing machines of the Terminator franchise. But somehow Shirley Manson manages to make even a metal machine feel wooden. It probably won’t come as a surprise to learn the liquid-metal Catherine Weaver was Manson’s first foray into the acting world. Apparently she modelled the part on another “iron lady”, Margaret Thatcher, and went through multiple auditions, but we suspect series creator Josh Friedman just wanted her dulcet tones for season two opening track “Samson & Delilah”.
