2008's big games reviewed already!

Prototype | Radical Entertainment
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC

We reckon...
Oooooh... Mercenaries, Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto, Crackdown - this game's inspirations are clear from the first released footage. Prototype is also playing the 'terribly violent' card, and developer Radical has claimed it wants to create the ultimate anti-hero. But beyond a few borrowed concepts, a splash of gore and some bio-tinkering plot lines that see you cast as a monster-slash-man, what exactly is Prototype going to offer?

Actually, Prototype's action is promising. The 'infected' enemy is suitably alarming, lead-man Mercer's organically-modified skills are impressive, and it could all turn out like a darker, weirder version of Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, which was a pretty fun romp. That said, Prototype will need a strong driving force to keep us interested - just being able to slice'n'dice the populace isn't enough.

But will it sell?
It's clear Radical are aiming to build Prototype's gory reputation, which will undoubtedly translate into interest from the gaming mainstream.

Knee-jerk verdict
At the moment, the clinical-looking environment dulls the impact of Prototype's exciting combat, though we can see it developing into a satisfyingly gruesome, though shortlived, actioner. 8/10

Note: Please remember that these these 'reviews' are merely lighthearted scores based on nothing but our own arrogant prejudice and opinonated ego. Duh. We will review the game fully when it is released.
