The Musician: Classic rocker known for fronting Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Petty went on to perform in muso-supergroup the Traveling Wilburys.

The Cameo: The funniest moment in this futuristic Costner flop comes when Petty appears as the Mayor of Bridge City, the sole sanctuary for survivors.

Geekiest Fact: While never directly stated, its inferred that hes playing a future iteration of himself.

Fergie - Poseidon (2006)

The Musician: Stacy 'Fergie' Ferguson, one third of the Black Eyed Peas.

The Cameo: As doomed diva singer, Gloria, the sequin-studded entertainment for the passengers of the fated luxury liner.

Geekiest Fact: The two ballads she performs onscreen were co-written with her Peas bandmate, Will.I.AM.

Gwen Stefani - The Aviator (2004)

The Musician: Singer for 90s ska-pop outfit, No Doubt, who later branched out as a solo artist.

The Cameo: Coiffed and kitted in period fashions, Stefani appears on the arm of Howard Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio) as 1930s blonde bombshell, Jean Harlow.

Geekiest Fact: Her acting debut, Stefani landed the gig after director Martin Scorsese spotted her on the cover of Vogue.

Marilyn Manson - Party Monster (2003)

The Musician: Frontman and lead singer of industrial glam rockers, Marilyn Manson.

The Cameo: Manson takes a minor supporting turn as Christina Superstar, a drag queen performer who befriends Michael Alig (Macauley Culkin) and later becomes one of his lackeys.

Geekiest Fact: Party Monster was Mansons eighth film performance, his debut turn was in David Lynchs Lost Highway.

Billy Ray Cyrus - Mulholland Drive (2001)

The Musician: Country music singer who hit the mainstream with his 1992 crossover hit 'Achy Breaky Heart'.

The Cameo: Cyrus pops up briefly as wife-beater wearin pool cleaner, Gene. Caught having an affair with the wife of film director, Adam Kesher (Justin Theroux), he helpfully removes the hot-headed creative from the premises.

Geekiest Fact: Cyrus blames Lynch for his infamous daughter Mileys downfall. Citing his role in the movie, he told GQ bizarrely "Were it not for David Lynch, Miley would never have been Hannah Montana".

Dave Grohl - Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny (2006)

The Musician: Former drummer of rock pioneers, Nirvana, and frontman for the Foo Fighters.

The Cameo: Summoned from hell, Grohl appears to JB (Jack Black) and Kyle (Kyle Gass) as Satan after the pair activate a supernatural guitar pick. The bumbling duo challenge him to a rock-off. Result? An awesome guitar shred battle.

Geekiest Fact: Grohl played the same satanic character in Tenacious Ds 'Tribute' music video.
