48 hours in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is an adorable new adventure from Marvelous Games that sees you move to your own farm complete with animals to look after, seeds to plant and town festivities to celebrate.
You move to Mineral Town after inheriting your grandfather's farm, a farm you used to visit as a child. It’s not quite as well kept as you remember it, though, and it’s up to you to clean the place up and restore it to its former glory. That requires a lot of work, of course, so much so, in fact, that we can’t fit it all in a single day. So here is what it’s like to spend 48 hours in Mineral Town.
Day One - 6.30am
Mornings on the farm are best spent tending to crops and caring for your animals. Most of the other residents haven’t woken up or opened their shops yet, so it’s the perfect time to water the potatoes and turnips growing.
It’s also important to feed your animals, and have a quick chat with them too, of course. They don’t have much to say, but they’re great listeners. The chickens lay eggs every day, so we need to pick those up and leave some chicken feed.
Once we’ve said hello to our horse, it’s time to head to town. We’ve finally saved up enough to buy our first cow so it’s a pretty big day...
12pm
Mineral Town is full of villagers. Some own their own businesses, others are new to the town, just like you. Saying hello to the villagers you run into each day will help build relationships with them.
This morning we’re heading to PoPoultry, the little shop run by Lillia and her family, to restock on feed for the chickens, and then to Yodel Ranch to buy our first cow. Mugi has a variety of different cows for sale, although we only have enough for a regular cow today, the minute we have enough we are coming back to buy a strawberry cow.
3pm
Next it’s over to the General Store to buy some more seeds. Some seeds grow on a vine and will keep producing more veggies until the end of the season, but others only produce once, like the potatoes we’re buying today. We’ve also bought a couple of bars of chocolate to give out to some villagers as gifts. We can’t afford enough for everyone so we’ll have to be selective as to who gets a gift today (hopefully the rest of the town don’t mind.)
5pm
Back to the farm now to meet your new cow! We also need to till the soil so we can plant our new potato seeds. There are still some tree stumps and large rocks in some parts of the farm, so we need to work to upgrade our tools so we can finally get rid of them.
Zack the shipper will also stop by to collect all the goods we have put in our box and give us money in return.
8pm
Now all the chores are done for the day, we’ll store the equipment we don’t need in our cupboard. We’ve got an early start in the morning and we don’t want to oversleep, so once we’ve written in our journal (which is how you save the game) it’s time for bed.
Day 2 - 6.30am
We’ll start by tending to the animals. The chickens have left us two more eggs so we’ll be sure to pop those in the box to sell. Today we want to get the materials to upgrade some of our tools, so we’ll head to the mines to see what we can.. Well, mine!
9am
The spring mines are a great place to find materials like copper ore, which are essential to upgrade tools. By hitting rocks and tilling the ground you can work your way down the mines. Holes may also appear that let you descend several floors at once. It might hurt a little on the way down, though.
2pm
Working in the mines really takes it out of you, and you might find your stamina has depleted significantly. A trip to the hot springs, which is conveniently right outside of the mines, will replenish stamina.
5pm
Now we’re back at the farm, we really should water our plants. It takes some time, but now we have enough copper to upgrade our watering can things might get a lot quicker. So we’ll need to pay a visit to Saibara at the Forge tomorrow.
8pm
Time for bed once again. Each day you’ll find yourself with a longer to-do list, and it’s exciting to see the farm grow little by little, more animals move into your barn and to explore the town to find out more about each villager.
This is just a sample of the many things you can do in Mineral Town, but you won’t need to wait long to find out for yourselves. Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is out on Nintendo Switch on July 10, and Steam on July 14, so start packing your bags now, ready to move in!
