50 Coolest Movie Cars
Desirable drives to deliver that need for speed
Romancing The Stone (1984)
The Car: Technically it's a Ford Bronco pick-up truck, but as owner Juan points out, it's isn't a car - "They told you I had a car? They are such comedians. They meant my little mule: Pepe."
Coolest Detail: Pepe came with several modifications, including a slight lift and 35" tyres - all the better to execute stunts like the jump over the river.
Dumb And Dumber (1994)
The Car: Dog grooming has never been more fashionable than Harry Dunne's Mutt Cutts business, chiefly because of the official company vehicle, a customised 1984 Ford Econoline van.
Coolest Detail: Pay attention at the back. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOG.
National Lampoon's Animal House (1978)
The Car: A 1966 Lincoln Continental… originally. But when the guys from Delta Tau Chi get their hands on it, it is transformed into the Deathmobile, ready to wreak havoc at the homecoming parade.
Coolest Detail: The customised bonnet, utilising a statue of the school's founder Emil Faber.
Cruel Intentions (1999)
The Car: There are only two things that Sebastian Valmont really cares about - his step-sister Kathryn Merteuil, and his prized Jaguar XK140 roadster.

Coolest Detail: Sebastian is willing to wager his car on the likelihood of bedding virginal Annette Hargrove, because if he wins, Kathryn will let him "put it anywhere."
Rush (2013)
The Car: With all due respect to Niki Lauda's Ferrari 312T2, all eyes are on James Hunt's Formula One-winning McLaren M23 here.
Coolest Detail: The budget-ballooning quest for historical accuracy that saw Ron Howard's crew built specially commissioned replicas, down to tiny mid-season changes that only F1 purists would even notice.
The Muppet Movie (1979)
The Car: Fozzie's vehicle of choice is the 1951 Studebaker Commander Coupe left to him by his uncle - perfect for a road trip, and even groovier when Electric Mayhem repaint it in psychedelic colours.
Coolest Detail: The illusion that Fozzie was driving, which was achieved - according to the Muppet Show Fan Club newsletter - by having " a midget drive the car by remote control from the trunk, using a television monitor to guide his steering. The puppeteers were lying on the seat or were scrunched on the floor and couldn't see a thing."
The Cannonball Run (1981)
The Car: The Dodge Tradesman ambulance is already capable of some nifty speeds, but if you're gonna race in The Cannonball Run, it helps if you tinker with the engine to make it run even faster.
Coolest Detail: If it sounds outlandish, consider that the vehicle was driven in the real Cannonball Run by director Hal Needham and legendary car journalist Brock Yates.
The Blues Brothers (1980)
The Car: Once upon a time, this was a 1974 Dodge Monaco patrol car… until Jake and Elwood Blues got hold of it and transformed it into the Bluesmobile, an essential aid to reuniting the band.
Coolest Detail: As Elwood explains, "it's got a cop motor… cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks." Perfect in the eventuality of a massive car chase, in other words.
Despicable Me (2010)
The Car: The inevitable result of a super-villain with an eye for outlandish design but little interest in practicality, Gru's giant vehicle looks like an over-sized 1960s Cybermat.
Coolest Detail: The multi-rocket afterburner, perilously affixed to the main car by a cat's cradle of cables.
The Green Hornet (2011)
The Car: Black Beauty, the Green Hornet's gadget-rich supercar, is modelled on the 1960s vintage Imperial Crown sedan.
Coolest Detail: There's no messing about here, trying to hide the weaponry - instead, pride of place goes to two bonnet-mounted machine guns.
There was "no version" of Sonic 3 that wouldn't include Live and Learn according to director Jeff Fowler: "The fans would hunt me down"
Amid Oscar buzz, Zoe Saldana opens up on her new perspective on Hollywood and why she's only really proud of Avatar and Emilia Pérez: "I think I just have to accept who I am as a creative person"
