50 Coolest Movie Cops
Best of the boys in blue
Assault On Precinct 13 (1976)
The Cool Cop: Ethan Bishop
Coolest Moment: As a malicious street gang attempt to bust their way into the police station, Bishop and his motley crew hold their own, shooting anything that comes at the windows.
If He'd Been From Blighty: It’d be a gang of chavvy teens trying to bust their way into the station.
Taking Of Pelham One Two Three (1974)
The Cool Cop: Lieutenant Zachary Garber
Coolest Moment: “I’m sure you guys have your share of crime on the Tokyo subways,” Garber asks a set of foreign sight-seers as he shows them around the office. They fail to respond. Garber takes it in his stride.
If He'd Been From Blighty: He pretend the tourists don't even exist.
Mystic River (2003)
The Cool Cop: Sean Devine
Coolest Moment: “I don’t wanna hurt a kid, but it looks like somebody already beat me to it,” says Devine as he comes up against Katie’s murderers. Then he saves the day , capping it off with a relieved “motherfucker”.
If He'd Been From Blighty: His sidekick would be Simon Pegg.
In The Heat Of The Night (1967)
The Cool Cop: Police Chief Bill Gillespie
Coolest Moment: “You got a name boy?” asks Gillespie of a prisoner brought into his office. “Virgil?” he mocks upon being answered, then cracks up laughing . What a bad-ass.
If He'd Been From Blighty: He’d still laugh. Funny name.
Reservoir Dogs (1992)
The Cool Cop: Freddy Newandyke, aka Mr. Orange
Coolest Moment: As Mr Blond prepares to burn poor Marv alive, Mr Orange intervenes with a few well-placed bullets to the chest, saving Marv’s life.
If He'd Been From Blighty: He'd do the exact same thing. Heroism has nothing to do with nationality.
West Side Story (1961)
The Cool Cop: Lieutenant Schrank
Coolest Moment: Schrank stumbles upon two gangs – The Jets and The Sharks – fighting in the street, and intervenes with a few well-placed “Alright wiseguys”.
If He'd Been From Blighty: He’d be equally tough, but without the awesome Jersey accent.
Touch Of Evil (1958)
The Cool Cop: Miguel Vargas
Coolest Moment: “I’m sure he’s just as unpleasant in any language.” Vargas lays the smackdown on Sanchez , who’s the prime suspect in a case involving a bomb being planted in a car.
If He'd Been From Blighty: That wouldn’t really have worked for the plot, to be honest...

The Departed (2006)
The Cool Cop: William ‘Billy’ Costigan Jr.
Coolest Moment: Having ordered a cranberry juice in a bar, Billy’s accused by one of the patrons of getting his period. To which Billy takes offence, and smashes the accuser over the head with a glass. Nice.
If He'd Been From Blighty: He’d be drinking pints, not juice.
Bad Boys (1995)
The Cool Cops: Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and Mike Lowrey
Coolest Moment: The duo give chase in a Porsche 911 Turbo – these cops just love their car chases.
If They'd Been From Blighty: They’d refer to themselves as Mad Mates or something.
The Border (1982)
The Cool Cop: Charlie Smith
Coolest Moment: More a string of cool moments than one particular standout, including Smith giving chase when one illegal border-jumper attempts to do a runner, then being nice to an illegal woman only to have her spit in his face...
If He'd Been From Blighty: He’d probably get accused of being an illegal as well.
