50 Coolest Movie Friendships
Them against the world
Harry Potter (2001 - 2011)
The Cool Friends: Harry, Ron and Hermione, the inseparable Hogwarts trio who become friends from the get-go, and stay together through thick and thin, saving each other's lives countless times in the ongoing battle against Lord Voldemort.
Coolest Moment: So many to choose from, but we'll go for the daring infiltration and subsequent escape from Gringotts bank. They ride out of there on the back of a raging dragon, for heaven's sake!
Trainspotting (1996)
The Cool Friends: Trainspotting 's assorted mob of psychos, junkies and boozehounds are generally only interested in looking out for number one, but unlike the unhinged Begbie or the narcissistic Sick Boy, Renton and Spud do at least lkeep an eye out for one another. When they're not lying in their own vomit, that is.
Coolest Moment: Renton's kind-hearted decision to stash Spud his share of the drug money at the end of the film, leaving Begbie and Sick Boy decidedly short-changed.
Heavenly Creatures (1994)
The Cool Friends: Juliet and Pauline's friendship might not be the healthiest bond on this list, but their loyalty to one another is impressive nonetheless, as is the detail with which they create a fantasy world to share together. A little bit unhinged then, but an intense friendship that's worth flagging up.
Coolest Moment: Their shared fantasy of a gorgeous, palatial garden in which they can retreat from the mundanity of the real world.
Wayne's World (1992)
The Cool Friends: Wayne and Garth, co-presenters of cable talk shaw, Wayne's World . Bonded over their mutual love of smokin' babes and righteous guitar licks, they rub along together through all manner of OTT adventures with barely a cross word spoken between them, barring a minor tiff over a girl. That's beautiful, man.
Coolest Moment: The Scooby Doo ending is our personal favourite. "Good one, Shaggy!"
Superbad (2007)
The Cool Friends: Based upon the high-school dynamic between writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, Seth and Evan aren't the coolest kids in school, and so stick to each other like glue. Evan is the more abrasive of the pair, but without his constant scheming, the two would never end up with girlfriends! At least not for a while, anyway.
Coolest Moment: The point at which they finally get their illicit booze to the party, making them appear cool in the eyes of their peers for the very first time.
Grumpy Old Men (1993)
The Cool Friends: John and Max might profess to hate each other, but you can't squabble for the better part of fifty years without forming some kind of bond. And sure enough, by the time the film has run its course, the two old curmudgeons have rebuilt enough bridges to truly consider each other friends again. Ahhhh.
Coolest Moment: Max barricading himself inside John's house in order to prevent the IRS from getting their hands on it. Way to go, buddy!
Swingers (1996)
The Cool Friends: Lounge lizards Trent and Mike, the former of whom will go to every length necessary to ensure the latter manages to get over his ex-girlfriend. Even when Mike is at his mopiest, Trent still tries to keep his spirits up, usually by getting him drunk. Good man.
Coolest Moment: Trent's bunny speech, which comes to a head with him advising Mike not to be "the guy in the PG-13 movie everyone's really hoping makes it happen." Sound advice.

Lethal Weapon (1987 - 1998)
The Cool Friends: Police partners who learn to love each other on the job, Riggs and Murtaugh are a textbook case of opposites attracting, the former taking more risks than any public servant ever should while the latter shakes his head and bangs on about being too old for this shit. After four films of mayhem, they clearly can't get enough of each other.
Coolest Moment: Riggs in the playground, calmly strolling towards an agitated sniper. No wonder Murtaugh is left pulling his hair out...
Bad Santa (2003)
The Cool Friends: Housebreaker Willie shares a truly bizarre connection with the spookily disconnected Thurman, but by the end of the film, the two are firm friends. Willie even endures a full clip of bullets to make sure the little boy gets his Christmas present!
Coolest Moment: Willie beats seven shades out of one of Thurman's bullies in an attempt to start looking out for his young friend. "I think I've turned a corner," muses Willie. "I beat the shit out of some kids today, but it was for a purpose. Made me feel good about myself."
Pulp Fiction (1994)
The Cool Friends: Jules and Vincent might be colleagues first and foremost, but their willingness to share breakfast together and generally shoot the shit for hours on end qualifies them as friends in our book. And God knows they certainly tick the cool box…
Coolest Moment: Batting some of QT's most quotable dialogue back and forth as they discuss the little differences between Europe and the States.
