50 Coolest Scarlett Johansson Moments

Distracting sex - The Black Dahlia (2006)

There are always concerns for any actress acting out a sex scene onscreen but very rarely is one of those concerns that viewers may find the scene too 'distracting'.

And yet, this is exactly what happened when The Black Dahlia first began screening for critics, with many stating that they found it difficult to concentrate on the rest of the film after the scene.

Johansson herself hit back at this response: "Of course it's nice to be considered sexy, as a young woman in my prime. But I try not to think about the sexiness. And I never think about it being distracting from a scene."

A grown-up Birdy The Man Who Wasnt There (2001)

At just 15, Scarlett Johansson gave an incredibly sexually precocious performance as Birdy in the Coen Bros’ black-and-white drama.

One scene in particular, in which she attempts to give Billy Bob Thornton’s Ed oral sex while he is driving, causing him to veer off the road and crash the car, sees Johansson prove that she is capable of giving a performance well beyond her years.

On plastic surgery

It’s hard to live up to the pressures of looking young and attractive when in the media spotlight, right? Which is why so many celebrities take to ill-advised plastic surgery.

But what’s wrong with growing old gracefully and not giving in to the unfair culture of always staying young?

We bet Scarlett Johansson has something to say about all of this: “I definitely believe in plastic surgery. I don't want to be an old hag. There's no fun in that.”

Inspiring Katy Perry

Little-known fact about Katy Perry’s hit song I Kissed A Girl: it was inspired by Scarlett Johansson.

No, not because the two ever had a ‘thing’.

Perry says: “I Kissed A Girl was inspired when I opened up a magazine and I saw a picture of Scarlett Johansson. I was with my boyfriend at the time, and I said to him, 'I'm not going to lie: If Scarlett Johansson walked into the room and wanted to make out with me, I would make out with her. I hope you're okay with that?"

When eventually told of this, ScarJo responded “That's flattering, but my lips are kind of taken”

Introducing Horse Whisperer (1998)

Despite starring in seven feature films beforehand, Scarlett Johansson received an “Introducing” credit for The Horse Whisperer and, to be fair, it makes perfect sense, becoming the film that brought Johansson worldwide recognition and fame.

The actress was just 13 during filming and, as well as adding a Robert Redford directed movie to her CV at such a young age, she proved more than capable of holding her own against the veteran actor onscreen too.

The movie turned out to be a huge leap for Johansson’s career, especially considering that her previous film was er... Home Alone 3 .

Getting her own star

You can win any number of awards and date any number of A-listers, but you've never really made it in Hollywood until you have your own star in the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

Johansson's star was unveiled in May 2012, when the actress was just 27. Ugh. What have we done with our lives?

Silken Floss - The Spirit (2008)

So the film may not have been well received, but Johansson still oozes feminine wiles as the femme fatale accomplice to Samuel L. Jackson's psycho supervillain The Octopus.

Between casually, accidentally running over a clone henchman and escaping the climactic stand-off to fight again another day, Johansson's slightly insane Floss is one responsible for the better scenes in this comic-book adaptation.

Response to leaked photos

After being a victim of apparent phone hacking that led to nude photos of her on the internet, the biggest surprise was the adult way in which Johansson reacted to the scandal.

Refusing to give in to outrage or upset, when questioned about the leaked photos, Johansson instead took it as an opportunity to make a reasoned comment on the nature of celebrity, telling CNN’s David McKenzie “Just because you're in the spotlight, or just because you're an actor or make films or whatever doesn't mean you're not entitled to your own personal privacy. If that is sieged in some way, it feels unjust. It feels wrong.”

The Oscar nominated song - Chasing The Ice (2012)

Despite several Golden Globe nominations, Johansson has never received any Oscars attention. That is, unless you count her singing...

For the climate documentary Chasing The Ice , she recorded the single Before My Time, written by J. Ralph, which ended up being nominated for Best Original Song at The 85th Academy Awards.

Recreating the shower scene - Hitchcock (2012)

When Anthony Hopkins took on the role of master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock, it was Scarlett Johansson who had the most fun, playing Psycho star Janet Leigh.

As the young Hollywood starlet, Johansson's character was always in control of her scenes, even when opposite the supposedly difficult-to-work-with Hitchcock, but it was in recreating Psycho 's iconic shower scene where she really comes alive.

And, in any case, this re-enactment of the infamous scene is certainly more tasteful than that in the Psycho remake.
