50 unluckiest movie characters
They can't catch a break.
31. Red
As Seen In: Pineapple Express (2008)
The Bad Luck: Red just cannot seem to avoid physical harm. He\s an absolute glutton for it. Across the course of the movie he gets seven shades kicked out of him, is shot several times, blown up and buried under a car. He's durable, if nothing else.
Does It All Come Good In The End? It certainly does, as not even all of the above can keep Red down for long. Tough as old boots, that guy…
30. Dr. Robert Morgan
As Seen In: The Last Man On Earth (1964)
The Bad Luck: Robert is entirely alone in a world that has fallen prey to a vampiric plague. Some would argue it would be better to be dead than to have been the lone survivor. However, Robert's spirits are raised when he finds a friendly dog, a fellow living creature with which to share his days…
Does It All Come Good In The End? He finds out the dog is infected mere seconds later and is forced to kill it. It's the moment that pushes him over the edge. Oh dear...
29. Seth Brundle
As Seen In: The Fly (1986)
The Bad Luck: You could argue that Brundle's transformation is a product of over-reaching ambition, heavy drinking and sexual jealousy, but really, it's just damned bad luck that a fly gets into the telepod with him!
Does It All Come Good In The End? Not so much. Brundle loses his compassion, as well as the plot, when he turns into a hideous hybrid of man and fly.
28. Ted Stroehmann
As Seen In: There's Something About Mary (1998)
The Bad Luck: Once you've caught your penis in your zipper in front of your prom date and been carted off to hospital amid a bunch of smirking paramedics, you probably think you've used up your store of bad luck for a lifetime. Not so for Ted, who manages to bring about one embarrassing mishap after another in his pursuit of the titular love interest.
Does It All Come Good In The End? Ted and Mary eventually get together, but he'll always know that she once used his semen as hair gel...
27. Marsellus Wallace
As Seen In: Pulp Fiction (1994)
The Bad Luck: Having been screwed by prize-fighter Butch, Marsellus happens across his former employee when crossing the road one day. A stroke of luck, you might think. But not really, because the ensuing course of events sees Marsellus run over, beaten black and blue and anally raped by a pair of giggling hillbillies. Not a great afternoon for the big man.
Does It All Come Good In The End? Butch can't bear to leave his old boss to the mercies of Zed, so he helps him regain the upper hand. It's not exactly a happy ending, but Marsellus does get to help himself to a little payback.
26. Milton Waddams
As Seen In: Office Space (1999)
The Bad Luck: Milton works in a poorly paid job in a dead end office with colleagues who don't like him and bosses who don't respect him. Having been laid off years earlier, he's only there because nobody has bothered to tell him not to be. His lot in life isn't the best…
Does It All Come Good In The End? Yes! Milton makes off with the firm's profits and relocates to the Caribbean. Woo-hoo!
25. Max Durocher
As Seen In: Collateral (2004)
The Bad Luck: Max is a hapless cabbie who just happens to pick up the wrong fare, in the form of Tom Cruise's kill-happy hit man, Vincent. If he'd knocked off early, he could have enjoyed a quiet night with his feet up, rather than the mayhem that ensues..
Does It All Come Good In The End? Max manages to save Vincent's last target by shooting Vincent himself. We'd imagine a degree of psychiatric trauma for a while to come...

24. Heather, Josh and Mike
As Seen In: The Blair Witch Project (1999)
The Bad Luck: These three Montgomery College film students venture into the local woods to collect footage for a documentary chronicling the history of a mythical figure known as the Blair Witch. Unable to return to their car after losing their map the trio keep walking in circles, but it's no good. They're completely lost, and something's stalking them through the woods.
Does It All Come Good In The End? The last we see of Josh is his bloodied teeth in a basket, and as for Heather and Mike? The sight of Mike's back in the corner of that creepy cottage would suggest that a similarly grisly fate awaits them both...
23. Pam Magnus
As Seen In: In The Line Of Fire (1993)
The Bad Luck: Pam is the bank teller who gets all over-excited when she recognises the Minnesotan home town of customer "James Carney". it's an unfortunate coincidence, given that it's one that threatens Carney's cover story…
Does It All Come Good In The End? Sadly, not. James Carney is actually assassin Mitch Leary, who tracks Pam back to her apartment, before killing both her and her roommate. In fact, the roommate is even unluckier than Pam!
22. Eduardo Saverin
As Seen In: The Social Network (2010)
The Bad Luck: Saverin's bad luck is largely engineered by the involvement of Shaun Parker, who turns Zuckerberg against his former buddy and persuades him to cut him out of Facebook. He probably should have double-checked the small-print, but can he really be blamed for trusting his friend?
Does It All Come Good In The End? Saverin received a huge payout and had his name restored to the Facebook masthead, but the pair's friendship remained totally shot. A sad story indeed.
