Abe's Oddysee HD confirmed, Stranger's Wrath HD still on shaky ground

RuptureFarms is reopening for an HD remake of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. According to Oddworld Inhabitant's head Lorne Lanning, the remake is currently brewing at the UK studio Just Add Water, and will sport a whole new look for the offbeat, 1997 puzzler.

“It’s basically Abe’s Oddysee being redone in a 3D physics engine as a 2D side-scrolling platformer,” explained Lanning in an interview for EGM's upcoming issue. "So the way Just Add Water wants to approach it, we thought was very smart; they are not trying to reinvent any wheels. It's like, 'Can we make that experience in a new engine, with new tech, in the old way?'"

Abe HD is the second Oddworld project in Just Add Water's queue. Last year, the studio announced that it would be updating a slew of Oddworld titles for various platforms, beginning with an HD retooling of 2005's Stranger's Wrath; a release which is currently experiencing some delays at the Microsoft borders.

"We have Stranger all ready to go on XBLA, but the answer keeps being no," noted Lanning. "We're still talking to them and we're hoping to work it out."

As ominous as that sounds, the problems facing Stranger's Wrath are likely the same size issues reported last year, and Just Add Water needs to whittle down its download to meet XBLA's 2GB limit. As far as we know, a PS3 release is plannedregardless of any XBL issues.
