Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg on for I Hate You Dad
Comedy duo unite for oedipal comedy
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg are in talks to star in I Hate You Dad , a comedy from Sandler's Happy Madison production company.
Sandler will be playing Samberg's dad, despite the fact he's only 12 years older than him. The plot focuses on the family feuding that ensues when a dad moves in on the eve of his son's wedding.
It sounds a little generic, but the two actors could prove to be a potent combo: Sandler's presence is almost a guarantee of box office gold, while Samberg is consistently hilarious with his musical troupe The Lonely Island, and he also starred in underrated gem Hot Rod .
Samberg is currently a prominent member of the Saturday Night Live line-up, the show on which Sandler formerly made his name.
Could Dad be the movie to get Samberg mainstream cinematic recognition? Hot Rod wasn't a huge hit, and most of his appearances in bigger movies have been in a supporting capacity.
We shouldn't have to wait too long to find out, as we expect this'll go into production very quickly.
