Alan Partridge movie will arrive in August 2013
StudioCanal acquires UK rights
With Alan Partridge having made his triumphant return back to the small screen on Sky Atlantic last night, there's further good news for monkey tennis aficionados, with the announcement that The Alan Partridge Movie will be released in the UK next August.
A script has already been written by Steve Coogan, Armando Ianucci, Peter Baynham, and Neil and Rob Gibbons, with Coogan set to reprise his performance as the brightest star in the Radio Norwich galaxy.
Where exactly the plot will take Alan remains to be seen, but with Ianucci and Coogan famously resistant to transporting the character out of his natural habitat (radio studios, service stations etc.), we'd be surprised to see it set anywhere outside of the UK.
The man himself has helpfully provided a quote regarding the new film, with Alan announcing his pleasure at StudioCanal's involvement.
"I’m simultaneously gladdened and pleased to see a British film being co-funded by the French dudes at StudioCanal," he said. "This is without doubt the greatest Anglo-French co-operation since the Normandy landings. This time, the heroes aren’t Allied servicemen - they’re motion picture financiers, who are equally brave."
The Alan Partridge Movie will open in the UK on 16 August 2013. Jackanackanory!
