Alex Pettyfer signs on to stripper film Magic Mike
Based on the life of Channing Tatum
Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper movie Magic Mike , inspired by Channing Tatum’s pre-Hollywood life, has landed its lead in the form of Britboy Alex Pettyfer.
Pettyfer will play Tatum, who entered the world of stripping when he was just 19 years old, years before his first starring role in a Hollywood production.
Meanwhile, Tatum himself will also appear in the film, but as the titular Mike, a dance teacher who shows Pettyfer’s Tatum some saucy moves. Which is surely going to be a weird experience for the actor.
Tatum pitched the idea for Mike to Soderbergh himself, with the director calling it “one of the best ideas I’ve ever heard for a movie”.
Here’s hoping the ending of Magic Mike has Pettyfer meeting an actor playing Soderberg with the idea of making a film about his life, and we get to see who’s cast as Pettyfer playing Tatum in the movie-within-a-movie. Great, now our head hurts.
