Earlier this week, 20th Century Fox began sharing pictures from the upcoming Alien: Covenant on social media, each one posted with no further details or description save for a string of numbers. And while theories abounded with regards to what those numbers meant, the release of two new pics has us pretty sure we know what they are. But before we get to that, take a look and just enjoy the scenery:

So, what do the numbers mean? Well, despite the popular theories, they don't seem to be a countdown or pointing to when we'll get our first trailer. Instead, it looks like military time, followed by month, day, and year.
Notice how the eighth number increases by one each time a new picture is posted, while the numbers on either side of that digit stay the same. It would seem we're getting brief glimpses into the events of the film via slideshow, assuming that Covenant takes place over several days. If that's not the case… well hell, I dunno. You tell me.
Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Demian Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez and Danny McBride, Alien: Covenant will open in the US and UK on May 19, 2017.
