Andrew Niccol back on Stephenie Meyers The Host
Gattaca director to helm adap
Gattaca director Andrew Niccol has signed back on to direct the movie adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s The Host.
Niccol was previously attached to write and direct the adap, but instead departed to make sci-fi film Next (formally titled I’M.Mortal ).
With Next now in the can, Niccol has decided to jump straight back into The Host with the screenplay he originally wrote a few years back.
Handily, a lead has been cast in his absence, with Saoirse Ronan ( Hanna , The Lovely Bones ) recruited to play Melanie Stryder, a young girl who - unlike others in the world - fights an alien parasite that has attached itself to her.
The Host is currently looking for financing in Cannes, but seeing as it comes from the same pen as the writer of the Twilight Saga , you can bet money will be thrown at it from all angles.
Next , starring Justin Timberlake, Cillian Murphy and Amanda Seyfried, opens Stateside on 28 October.
