Angelina Jolie's In the Land of Blood and Honey picked up
FilmDistrict obtains the rights to her directorial debut
FilmDistrict has bought the rights to Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut In the land of Blood and Honey , GK Films has announced in Cannes.
Shot in Bosnia last year, the film focuses on a Bosnian woman and a Serbian man who are separated during the war.
The film stars Zana Marjanovic, Rade Serbedzija and Goran Kostic and was filmed simultaneously in both English and BHS (formerly Serbo-Croatian) languages.
In a statement, Jolie said, "The film is specific to the Bosnian War, but it's also universal. I wanted to tell a story of how human relationships and behavior are deeply affected by living inside a war."
Graham King and his business partner Tim Headington have financed the film, which is due to be released in the US on 23rd December.
Jolie added, "The former Yugoslavia has a rich history of dramatic arts, and the cast was extraordinary. I was privileged and honored to work with them and I am very excited for everyone to see their immense talent."
Jolie is currently in Cannes promoting Kung Fu Panda 2 . She has been joined by partner Brad Pitt, whose latest film, The Tree of Life , premieres tonight at the Grand Theatre Lumiere- check out our reaction to Malick's latest here.
