Anthony Mackie doesn't want a Falcon solo movie... wait, what?
As Marvel launches its next phase of superhero movies with Captain America: Civil War, you'd be hard pushed to find a supporting member of its various ensembles who isn't chomping at the bit for a solo outing. Well, unless you count Anthony Mackie.
Swooping in to help Captain America and The Avengers on multiple occasions has had quite an effect on the actor, who reveals in a new interview that a Falcon solo movie doesn't really appeal to him. "No, I don’t know man," Mackie tells IGN. "I don’t know. I like going to work with good people."
He goes on to explain how he prefers being able "to go to work and meet these people and see the way they work and kind of delve into their process as well is really a learning experience for me. So I feel like when you go to work and it’s just you and it’s me -- it takes away from that."
Naturally, Marvel's plans for the future aren't always reliant on the desires of its actors. If the studio pushed ahead with a standalone adventure, what would Mackie say to an offer? "I don’t know, I don’t know. That means my dudes are not going to be there. So Chris [Evans] is not going to be there. Sebastian [Stan] is not going to be there."
Mackie's bond with his superhero chums even sours the possibility of Cap turning up for a brief cameo. While you'd think that might make Mackie change his mind, the pain of separation is just too much for the actor. "No, no. Then that week is going to be hell. Hanging out with Chris for a week and then he’s like ‘I don’t want to leave!’ And I’m like ‘Chris dude, you gotta leave.’ You know, it’s just going to be a problem."
Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, and starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, Captain America: Civil War hits UK cinemas on April 29, 2016 and May 6 , 2016 in the US.
