Armie Hammer will saddle up as the Lone Ranger
Joins Johnny Depp in reboot
Social Network actor Armie Hammer has landed the lead role in Disney’s new movie version of The Lone Ranger .
After numerous casting rumours had suggested Ryan Gosling would be taking the role, Hammer was emerged as the victorious party – no doubt in part thanks to his stellar work in David Fincher’s film.
Based on the 1930s radio show and ‘40s TV series, Lone Ranger follows the titular hero and his sidekick Tonto, who combat injustice in the Old West.
Johnny Depp has long been attached as Tonto, the Ranger’s Native American companion. A role like the Ranger will do wonders to boost Hammer's movie profile - especially if he proves he can hold his own against Depp.
Next up for Hammer is a role in Tarsem Singh’s Snow White , and a part in Clint Eastwood’s biopic J. Edgar .
