Atari 2600 remake arrives on Xbox Live Arcade today
First space shooter in four years makes its debut
Star Raiders, a remake of the Atari 2600 classic, will be released on Wednesday, according to atweetby Major Nelson. Star Raiders is the first commercial space combat game for a home console (in the vein of TIE Fighter or Wing Commander) to be released in five years. The last was either Square's Project Silpheed or Wing Commander Arena, depending on what part of the world you're in. Both titles made their worldwide debut in July 2007.
The original Star Raiders was an early space combat game that tasked players with traveling the galaxy to destroy their enemies under a ticking clock. The remake is said to focus on combat and galactic travel.

Word about a possible Star Raiders remake first surfaced last summer when a GameFly listing included a new Star Raiders and a new Centipede title. Official confirmation of the former came in October. The final game will cost 800 Microsoft points, and the original is available on Game Room.
