Black Friday PS5 deals in Australia for 2024: get a PS5 disc console for well below AU$600
Black Friday PS5 deals will hit this November - here's everything we expect from this year's sale
Black Friday PS5 deals are coming over the horizon, and I'm looking forward to some particularly interesting offers in 2024. Of course, we've got a hefty mid-life refresh to contend with, but it's the PS5 Slim that could be the star of the show here. The console has had its fair share of discounts over the course of the year so far, and with that Pro model coming in hot things could get even cheaper come November.
Of course, the PS5 Pro will have some bearing on this year's sale. The new device is due for release just weeks before the holiday event begins - but I'm not holding out for much. I've been covering Black Friday gaming deals for over five years now and 2024 feels like the year of the PlayStation - though maybe not in the way Sony wants it.
Until those official discounts hit the shelves, I'm rounding up everything I expect to see from this year's Black Friday PS5 deals. Between the games that will likely see the biggest discounts and the accessories that look primed to drop their tags in the Fall, you'll find all my tips and tricks to making it through the sale.
What to expect from Black Friday PS5 deals in 2024
We'll start with the big one. The new mid-cycle refresh will hit the shelves on November 7 (PS5 Pro pre-orders went live on September 26) just over three weeks before Black Friday PS5 deals officially kick off. I'll get this out the way now, I'm not expecting any discounts on that AU$1,999.95 launch price in this year's sale. That's not the end of the story, though. After all, AU$1,999.95 is an astonishingly high RRP - Sony could well look to sweeten the deal over the holidays with free games and accessories for a limited time. If you're interested in picking up the PS5 Pro this year, I'd recommend getting in ahead of time. While the world's in a very different place to when the original console launched, we still don't know how available the refresh will be. Plus, Sony may well soften its heavy RRP at launch with its own release day bundles well before Black Friday.
The standard console should benefit from its own discounts, though. The PS5 has enjoyed some fantastic sales during 2024, dropping the AU$799 console down to AU$668 over the course of a couple of weeks in June, and again in early October.
One thing's for certain, PS5 games are going to see their own discounts. Dead Island 2, Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil 4, Dead Space Remake, Assassins' Creed: Mirage, and Hogwarts Legacy were all 2023 releases seeing record low prices over Black Friday last year so it's reasonable to assume this year's titles will get the same treatment. Astro Bot and Dragon Age: Veilguard might be a little tricky to find on sale, but Star Wars Outlaws is a recent release that's primed for savings come November if current figures are to be believed. However, I'm looking to The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered, Skull and Bones, Street Fighter 6, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Tekken 8, Helldivers 2, and Rise of the Ronin to offer up the best value discounts overall.
The majority of these titles hit the shelves in the first half of the year, so it's well worth keeping an eye on the release slate for 2024 to see where your savings might go this Fall. However, we can also expect the usual suspects to turn up; God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Spider-Man Miles Morales, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure are all mainstays of Black Friday PS5 deals these days.
In addition to the games, there are usually some discounts on peripherals. The official Pulse 3D headset had a brand-new lowest-ever price of just under AU$98 last year, and loads of third-party peripherals saw some massive cuts.
Early PS5 Black Friday deals in Australia
PlayStation 5 Slim (disc): was AU$799.95 now AU$558 on eBay (EB Games)
Save AU$241.95
This is easily the cheapest price we've seen for the PS5 (disc edition) and it won't likely drop this low again in 2024. This is an eBay Plus offer: grab a free trial, then use the coupon code PLUS120 at checkout to secure this AU$558 deal. Without the subscription it's still a generous price at AU$628.
PlayStation 5 Slim (disc): was AU$799.95 now AU$645.15 on Amazon AU
Save AU$154.85
The eBay deal above probably won't last long, so the next best thing is this Amazon deal, which brings it marginally lower than the retailer's all-time low of AU$649. With the PS5 Pro out, it's finally time for the PS5 to receive decent discounts, and this is definitely a great price for a still powerful console.
Save AU$51.80
Sony's brilliant yet exorbitantly priced premium DualSense is a fine piece of kit, and this AU$50 discount makes it ever more tempting. It has replaceable analog sticks, four back "paddle" buttons, changeable stick caps and a bunch of other lavish features that you'll regret not having once you've held one of these in hand.
Save AU$300.95
Wait, is this the PSVR 2 headset at a near affordable price? It's finally happened: If you've been reluctant to fork out nearly a grand for a brilliant-albeit-patchily supported peripheral, now is the time to bite. If you've already got a PS5 in the house, this is probably the best way to game in VR.
Save AU$35.85
This brilliant action RPG has been very shy of discounts since launch, so while AU$90 is pretty steep as far as PS5 game discounts go, if you've had your eye on Stellar Blade you'll know this is a good price. It's one of the most visually dazzling PS5 exclusives to date, with a gorgeous K-Pop soundtrack and engrossing combat.
Save AU$34.30
The first major discount on this 2024 PS5 gem, which will almost certainly go down as the platform's best exclusive of the year. It's a big cheerful platformer with an astonishing amount of ideas. If you're a fan of PlayStation history, it's pretty much a must-own, and the same holds true if you love 3D platformers.
Save AU$50.95
Dragon's Dogma 2 is arguably the best blockbuster RPG of the year (though Veilguard's right there). Capcom's fantasy lark has been available for well below RRP for months now, but this AU$59 price is a new low, down from the previous record of AU$69. Keep in mind that this deal is for the Lenticular Edition which is better than the standard edition, even though that's selling for more at the moment. Amazon, make it make sense.
Save AU$45.95
It may be a remake of a PS2 game, but Persona 3 stands up immaculately in the modern day, proving that Atlus' social RPGs have been brilliant even before Persona 5's western mainstream breakthrough. This is a gorgeous and stylish reimagining of the 2006 original, with all the mandatory quality-of-life improvements and more than 80 hours of game to sink your teeth into.
Save AU$24.50
The price may seem steep at a glance, but this UK import of Elden Ring includes the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, which easily adds at least fifteen hours to the base game. And what to say about Elden Ring at this point? It's probably the very best RPG of this console generation, especially if the chatty Baldur's Gate 3 is too, well, chatty for you.
Save AU$43
This long-awaited sequel to the sleeper Xbox 360 / PS3 hit delivers on everything fans of that older game wanted. It's a blissfully fast-paced third-person shooter with some jaw-dropping crowd tech: watching many hundreds of baddies swarm through these colossal arenas is a sight to behold. This 39% discount is generous, since the game's only been out for a month or so.
Save AU$54.95
Nice price for a JRPG that'll keep you busy for a hundred or so hours, if you're being thorough. It's the second in the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga, and as a result it's probably wise to play the first before you tackle this one. But you can just not take my advice; that's fine too. Some of us are just in it for the Queen's Blood mini-game afterall.
Save AU$50
The lowest price yet for this epic ye olde fantasy take on the Final Fantasy formula, which we said " stands alongside the series' greats" in our review. It's a big 60+ hour adventure that is incredible value for money at this price, with some of the most bonkers boss fights this side of Asura's Wrath. Amazon was briefly price matching JB Hi-Fi but sold out; if JB Hi-Fi sells out it's worth checking Amazon for a stock replenishment.
Save AU$69
Respawn's dazzling sequel to 2019's Fallen Order has improved a lot since it launched earlier this year. Combine that with the 63% discount you're getting here, and you have a compelling argument for why one should never buy a game at launch. Not that, uh, there's anything wrong with that. Survivor has been steadily dropping in price since launch, but this is the best we've seen yet.
Save AU$29.95
It may be a PS4 game but Red Dead Redemption 2 still looks beautiful, even though it hasn't been updated to take advantage of the PS5 (not to mention the PS5 Pro). This is one of the most lavish videogame productions to date, with an epic 40+ hour narrative and a story that can rival the great westerns.
FAQ
When will Black Friday PS5 deals begin in Australia?
We know that Black Friday PS5 deals will properly kick off on in Australia on Friday, November 29, 2024. This is the day many retailers still go biggest on so expect many of the best offers to sell out quickly.
However, we've all seen this movie before: every year Black Friday deals drop earlier and earlier and it'll be wise to pay close attention to those things you have your eye on from mid-October.
Where will have the best Black Friday PS5 deals in in 2024?
All the major retailers in Australia will be going large, as they do every year. From our now-extensive experience, the below stores are the best places to look, camp on, and frequently visit to get the best Black Friday PS5 deals in Australia.
Amazon: The go-to e-tailer will have discounts on all PS5 games and gear
JB Hi-Fi: Australia's biggest tech bricks and mortar will be worth keeping an eye on
eBay Australia: Whether direct or through a third-party seller, eBay is known to go big
The Gamesmen: Brilliant Aussie independent often surprises with its deals
Dell: Dell doesn't immediately scream "PS5", but you'll find some great discounts on monitors
Kogan: From games to accessories and TVs, Kogan will be worth the watch
Should you buy a PS5 Pro on Black Friday?
That AU$1,199.95 launch price is certainly intimidating, and I'm not expecting to see any discounts on that full cost in November. However, if you are in the market for an upgrade, Black Friday might be the time to take the leap. While we might not see straight discounts, I'm expecting a couple of bundles to pop up during the holiday sales. As we saw with last year's Spider-Man 2 package these offers don't last.
Once Sony's official bundles have run their course they're unlikely to be seen again until the next major sale (likely Black Friday 2025), so if you want the best value this year I'd recommend waiting for November.
