Call of Duty Online brings modern warfare to China with Tencent
CoD goes global
Today, Activision Blizzard announced a landmark partnership with Chinese publisher Tencent that will bring Call of Duty Online to Chinese shores. The deal opens the door for Acti-Blizz to bring the upcoming microtransaction-based shooter to an enromous new audience of tens of millions of Chinese gamers.
CoD fans will notice that much of this content is based on multiplayer levels and weapons that were already featured in the last five games from Modern Warfare 1 onward. So try not to be too sad that this isn't coming to America, you're not missing much.
Call of Duty Online is currently only planned for release in China, but you can expect that to change if the service does well over there. Frankly, we'd be pretty shocked if Acti-Blizz doesn't announce a microtransaction-supported CoD within the next two years.
