Marvel’s Spider-Man dev reveals why the No Way Home suits are only available on PS5
Insomniac has revealed why only the PS5 version of the game will be getting the suits
Following yesterday’s announcement that Marvel’s Spider-Man will be getting two new suits based on Spider-Man: No Way Home, Insomniac has revealed why this DLC is exclusive to the PS5 version of the game.
Announced via the official Insomniac Twitter account, the original tweet read: "Two new suits inspired by #SpiderManNoWayHome [...] are coming Dec 10th to Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered" and was shared alongside a new trailer of the Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition.
However, as expected, several fans weren’t happy with the fact only PS5 owners will be able to claim the suits - especially considering that the game was originally released on PS4. One fan responded to the announcement tweet with: "Would it have been so hard to release it on the PS4 version, considering the PS5's are almost impossible to get and a lot of people don't have one?"
That’s when Insomniac replied with: "Since its 2018 release, we’ve updated Marvel’s Spider-Man (PS4) 19 times, adding more suits and features than originally planned. Each patch has been more technically complex, especially with maintaining PS4 HDD streaming performance."
The developer then followed up this tweet with another saying: "To ensure fans continue enjoying Marvel’s Spider-Man (PS4) at its optimal performance, we’ve made the difficult decision to release these new suits for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (PS5) where our PS5 engine allows us to update the game without jeopardizing player experience."
Would it have been so hard to release it on the PS4 version, considering the PS5's are almost impossible to get and a lot of people don't have one?Not to mention, you've sold more copies of the game on PS4, why alienate all those supporters. Who also paid extra for DLC!!!December 6, 2021

The suits have been released in celebration of the upcoming sequel Spider-Man: No Way Home which, according to Peter Parker himself, Tom Holland, is "not fun" and is "going to be brutal." Which just makes us wish it was December 18 even more. In other Spider-Man news, the iconic web-slinger has just swung his way into Fortnite, and it turns out his web-slinging skills from Insomniac’s super-hero game have transferred over too.
If you’re wondering what developer Insomniac is up to these days - not including implementing the two new suits - the team is hard at work bringing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to life after it was revealed earlier this year. If one Marvel IP wasn’t enough, the studio is also currently working on Marvel’s Wolverine for the PS5 which is expected to release sometime in 2023 - alongside the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man.

After studying Film Studies and Creative Writing at university, I was lucky enough to land a job as an intern at Player Two PR where I helped to release a number of indie titles. I then got even luckier when I became a Trainee News Writer at GamesRadar+ before being promoted to a fully-fledged News Writer after a year and a half of training. My expertise lies in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, cozy indies, and The Last of Us, but especially in the Kingdom Hearts series. I'm also known to write about the odd Korean drama for the Entertainment team every now and then.
