Ninja Gaiden Sigma guide
Complete walkthrough with everything a ninja needs to know
You'll be on the rafters of the monastery. Before doing anything else, check the various ledges and platforms up here. There are some nice items and treasures to be found, including another Golden Scarab. Enter the doorway to reach a new room with a safe and a book in it. You can read the book to find out the solution to the safe puzzle, but we'll just give it to you here:
- Rotate the dial LEFT until it reaches 2.
- Rotate the dial RIGHT until it reaches 7.
- Rotate the dial RIGHT until it reaches 1.
- Finally, rotate the dial LEFT until it hits 2.
This will open the safe and net you one Book of the Eons. Hooray! As if on cue, more enemies will start to appear. You know what to do with them.
Go back outside and drop down to the main hallway of the Monastery. There's now a 60 enemy challenge in the Archive Room, which will yield you a valuable reward should you complete it. It's unavailable after finishing Chapter 9, so there's no time like the present to attempt to take it on. (You should probably go outside to save first if you opt to try it, though.)
In any case, in order to proceed, you need to place the Book of the Eons on the altar in this hallway. This will open up a new passage leading underground. Hop on down there and take a look around. Examine the dead body for a map and some ammo and then grab the next Golden Scarab that's lying around here.
Time for some spelunking! There's a bunch of wisps floating around - they're as weak as bats, but they're a bit harder to hit and cause more damage. Provided you can take them out quickly, they can also function as an almost-free essence source. Head towards the dragon statue and save your game. Enter the nearby corridor, then break the cracked wall as you did before with an Incendiary Shuriken... and get ready to run like hell, because you just disturbed a massive boulder. Whoops!
Run as fast as you can down the tunnel. There are spikes strewn about here meant to slow you down, which can be evaded with speedy wall-dashes and jumps. Just don't stop moving until you reach the end! If you do get squished by the rolling rock, you'll start the sequence over again, but you'll still retain damage you may have taken during the previous attempt.
At the end of this sequence, Ryu will latch onto a hanging bar and start swinging. Make your way across several bars by jumping until you reach another save point. The only way to go from here is down, so make with the descending! There are more enemies around here, which you'll need to kill off in order to open up the gate leading to the next area.
There are a lot of strange, wasp-like fiends in this room. They're easy to kill by themselves, but since they travel and attack in packs, they can do some serious damage. Use projectile attacks at a distance and broad strikes at close range to keep them at bay. Once they're all gone, make your way to the very bottom of the room. There's another passage here that leads to a save point. Save your game, then jump down to the bottom of the room. (You can take the long, winding spiral down if you'd like, but why bother?) There are more enemies to shred to bits here, so get that done and pay a friendly visit to the Muramasa statue to trade in your Scarabs and get whatever else you might need.
There's another tunnel nearby, so under it and jump down the passage with the ladder in it. A Golden Scarab rests in the nearby walls, so scour them until you manage to find it.
