Star Wars Outlaws guide for beginner scoundrels
Our guides will take Kay from novice criminal to seasoned underworld rogue in Star Wars Outlaws
This Star Wars Outlaws guide has everything you need to make your way across the galaxy. In this first ever open-world Star Wars game there's loads to see, fight, sneak past, and steal so we have plenty of guides to cover everything you could need to know.
Like junior scoundrel Kay Vess and her lovable pet, Nix, you might feel a bit in over your head as a new player trying to keep track of and understand how the game works. If you're tussling with Hutts, Pykes, and even the Empire, and don't know your fathiers from your Fast Talks this Star Wars Outlaws guide will help.
Be aware of some light story spoilers below and in the linked guides
While the game has an excellent sense of place and is fun at times, as our Star Wars Outlaws review says, it's unfortunately "hindered by poor stealth systems and lacklustre mission design".
How long is it?
The answer to how long Star Wars Outlaws is depends on many things, mainly your playstyle and how thoroughly you explore the world. With plenty of side missions, exploration, and other distractions to do, the time can vary so this guide will explain how long it might take you.
Tips and tricks
The complex criminal underworld can be a bit overwhelming, especially since the game throws a few early choices and tutorials at you. However, these Star Wars Outlaws tips that I wish I'd known before playing should help you learn the ropes of the combat, stealth, and the Reputation system.
If you want something even more basic then you might want to know how to remove the Star Wars Outlaws black bars, a cinematic flourish that looks authentic but squashes the image significantly. Additionally, you should be aware that the game is single-player only, so that means no Star Wars Outlaws multiplayer, unfortunately.
Factions and crime
The dangerous world that Kay finds herself in is dominated by a few major criminal gangs – the Pyke Syndicate, Crimson Dawn, the Hutt Cartel, and the Ashiga Clan. You'll be vying for the attention and favor of all these Star Wars Outlaws Factions, gaining or losing Reputation depending on your choices and actions. Then there are the risks, like like robbing the Star Wars Outlaws Crimson Dawn Vault or Star Wars Outlaws Pyke Vault which won't upset anyone if they never know it was you.
And, while contending with the Empire doesn't affect any sort of Reputation system, you will have to manage a Star Wars Outlaws Wanted level depending on what you on Vader's turf.
Abilities and skills
Outlaws does away with the usual XP levelling and skill trees, and instead introduces Star Wars Outlaws Experts who can teach Kay the ways of stealth, stealing, speeder piloting, blaster shooting and more.
This usually involves a mission to find them, and then a mix of challenges and missions to unlock useful things. Like the hunt for a Star Wars Outlaws Smoke Bomb Compressor to get a stealth friendly smoke bomb. Almost everything the experts teach is useful, with things like the Star Wars Outlaws Fast Talk ability buying you time to react.
Lockpicking and hacking
For example, the Star Wars Outlaws hacking minigame, in which Kay slices into a computer serves you well for basic terminals, but some expert help gets you the advanced Star Wars Outlaws Slicing Kit for superior hacking. And when hacking isn't needed, Kay will often need to bypass a lock with the trusty Data Spike in the Star Wars Outlaws lockpicking minigame.
Choices
With several planets packed with colorful crims, Star Wars Outlaws has plenty of choices, letting you play factions off each other, double-cross, or find your own path depending. One of the first decisions you'll make is whether to bluff or bribe the bouncer in Star Wars Outlaws, buy a Star Wars Outlaws VIP suite invite or not, and a Star Wars Outlaws Eleera or Gorak choice to tell of two factions about a Pyke traitor. Another choice involves hunting down some Star Wars Outlaws Counterfeit credits and deciding who to fill in on what you found.
Missions
In an open world of this scale there are lots of missions to undertake. I can't run through them all but we do have a good selection of some of the earlier quests in the game to help you get started:
- Here's how to infiltrate Gorak's base in Star Wars Outlaws
- This Star Wars Outlaws Rejected intel quest unlocks a new merchant
- There's a Star Wars Outlaws Waterfall and Rehidden Stash to find
- This Star Wars Outlaws crashed speeder has some rewards of you can find it
Outfits
There's a range of Star Wars Outlaws outfits to find as you play that can boost all sorts of stats. Some of it can be mission rewards, some found in the world and some effects can be crafted using resources like Star Wars Outlaws Coarseweave and Iron weave which can be found or bought. There's also some Star Wars Outlaws Ultimate Edition outfits to be found from pre-orders and collectors editions.
Weapons
There are a lot of Star Wars Outlaws weapons to chose from and use. But while Kay has her own blaster, a lot of the best guns are picks up that don't last. Learn what to prioritise, and any skills you might need to fight back, here.
Setting
Outlaws follows Kay Vess, a new characters finding her way in the galaxy. Read that guide for everything you need to know about her. And, if you want more about the setting overall then read up on the Star Wars Outlaws timeline to see where it slots in to the franchise overall.
Star Wars Outlaws exploration and activities
The open worlds of the various Star Wars Outlaws planets are filled with all sorts of missions, as well as secrets to find and things to do as you explore and search for adventure. That can leave you wondering which which planet you should go to first in Star Wars Outlaws. So I have guides to kill you on what's out there and what to expect.
Just be aware that while you'll be using your speeder bike to explore, there's a few things you'll need to know about how to shoot on a Speeder in Star Wars Outlaws if you get into trouble.
And, while you're exploring rocky areas, you might spot some suspiciously cracked and damaged areas, but you'll need to know how to break Star Wars Outlaws rock walls to get through and discover what's on the other side.
Money
Money is king in the criminal underworld of a galaxy far, far away, so knowing how to get Star Wars Outlaws credits is crucial for buying important materials and new gear. While I can help you earn more as you play there are also Star Wars Outlaws fathier races to bet on and Star Wars Outlaws Sabacc games to play. Both of which can be... nudged in your favor to boost your returns,
And, if your still after more Star Wars action after Outlaws then there are several upcoming Star Wars games to look forward to. Plus we have a list of the best Star Wars games you can play now.
