Backwards compatibility: "Of course we care"
[Multi] Microsoft's Moore clarifies quote; 20 more games now up and running
What's the difference between "nobody is concerned" and "nobody cares"? Lots, said Peter Moore in an appearance on Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb's podcast this week.
"'Nobody is concerned about backwards compat' was misinterpreted as 'Nobody cares about backwards compat.' That's not the case at all," said Moore. "Of course we care. We're going to continue to get as close as we can to our stated target of every Xbox game being back-compat to the Xbox 360, and I'm hopeful we get there."
Whether you consider it a clarification or denial, it's still good news for Xbox gamers. This morning, Major Nelson revealed a full list of 21 freshly-supported Xbox games, including Doom 3 and LEGO Star Wars, which are playable on Xbox 360 immediately:
4x4 EVO 2
Amped 2
Bad Boys 2
Big Mutha Truckers
DOOM 3
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Fatal Frame
FlatOut
Grabbed by the Ghoulies
Intellivision Lives
LEGO Star Wars
Minority Report
MLB SlugFest 20-04
The Punisher
RalliSport Challenge
Silent Hill 4: The Room
Spawn Armageddon
Spider-Man
Star Wars Battlefront
State of Emergency
Zapper
We popped in Doom 3 ourselves and can confirm, yep, it works... but we had to start it up a few times before it played nice. Maybe we shouldn't have pressed buttons during the opening cinema or something. The other game we grabbed quickly was Spawn Armageddon, which played perfectly. Well, it played like Spawn Armageddon, anyway.
