Banksy could attend the Oscars without a disguise
And exit through the gift shop
Those hoping to get a glimpse of notoriously cameraphobic artist Bansky could get their chance on Sunday thanks to this year’s Oscars ceremony.
The artist's feature film Exit Through The Gift Shop is up for the Best Documentary award at the 2011 Academy Awards, and Bansky could very well attend.
But any notions that the shy scribbler had of turning up in a disguise were quickly quashed by the Academy’s executive producer.
“The fun but disquieting scenario is that if the film wins and five guys in monkey masks come to the stage all saying, ‘I'm Banksy,’ who the hell do we give it to?” he said.
Bansky himself seems surprisingly couth about the whole thing. “I don't agree with the concept of award ceremonies,” he says, “but I'm prepared to make an exception for the ones I'm nominated for.”
Jokingly, he adds: “The last time there was a naked man covered in gold paint in my house, it was me.”
Will he turn up to the ceremony? Will the world finally discover what Banksy looks like? Keep your eagle eyes wide open on 27 February, when the Oscars 2011 take place.
