Ben Foster will play Lance Armstrong in new biopic
Stephen Frears will direct for Working Title
Yet another Lance Armstrong movie has been confirmed to be in the pipeline, with Stephen Frears set to direct Ben Foster as the disgraced cyclist.
According to Deadline , Foster is in final discussions to play Armstrong in a film that will chronicle the recent doping scandal that saw the seven-time Tour de France champion at its centre.
The new film is one of three movies set to explore Armstrong's fall from grace, with Paramount and Bad Robot working on an adaptation of the book Cycle Of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong , and Warner also lining up its own take on the story.
Working Title's film has already recruited Trainspotting screenwriter John Hodge to begin work on the script, which Deadline describes as focusing on "Armstrong's career, from his cancer ordeal to the scandal that brought him down."
The studio is keen to begin production as soon as this autumn, a target that could well see it become the first Armstrong film to hit our screens. And as Armstrong himself would argue, finishing first is everything…
